19 February 2013: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reported that the ACP (Africa-Caribbean-Pacific) Group of States has granted €20 million to the special fund for the Climate for Development in Africa Programme (ClimDev-Africa). The grant will enable ClimDev-Africa to become operational.

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), with a financial contribution from the Government of Japan, this workshop is being held back-to-back with the technical workshop organized by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation to climate change under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, held from 21-23 March 2013, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The workshop will support the update and/or implementation of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP) and the development of national climate change adaptation plans.

The Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) will host discussions on priority issues, development and implementation of Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects, and project integration in national development frameworks. The event will bring together focal points from the GEF, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), with representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat, and the GEF Agencies. The event will include exercises on national capacity development (NCSA), results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, synergies in project design, as well as discussions on the GEF 2020 Strategy, the new GEF Fee Policy, and Project Cycle harmonization. The registration deadline for civil society participants is 17 February 2013.

11 February 2013: Climate-related projects implemented in Namibia and Sri Lanka, and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), were two of nine projects highlighted by the "Momentum for Change" initiative during the December 2012 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations held in Doha, Qatar. The initiative, organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, highlights positive developments in climate change adaptation and mitigation that have the potential to be replicated elsewhere.
