19 February 2013: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reported that the ACP (Africa-Caribbean-Pacific) Group of States has granted €20 million to the special fund for the Climate for Development in Africa Programme (ClimDev-Africa). The grant will enable ClimDev-Africa to become operational.
14 February 2013: The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has released its 2012 annual report, titled "Creating the Climate for Change." In its fourth year of operations, the fund is in expansion with over 70 new countries asking for support.
14 February 2012: The 14th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change concluded with the adoption of a joint statement in which ministers reaffirm that the Kyoto Protocol remains a key component of the international climate regime, and appreciate the leadership demonstrated by developed countries that joined the second commitment period.
1 February 2013: The Congo Basin Forest Fund has launched a forest monitoring initiative to support improved remote sensing use for forest cover and forest cover change. The initiative, totaling €6.1 million, will also provide technical support for the development of forest monitoring proposals for funding under REDD+ programmes.
Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), with a financial contribution from the Government of Japan, this workshop is being held back-to-back with the technical workshop organized by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation to climate change under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, held from 21-23 March 2013, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The workshop will support the update and/or implementation of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP) and the development of national climate change adaptation plans.
November 2012: A policy brief from the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Program (CCAFS) of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) describes early experiences with the development of nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) in the agriculture sector.
14 February 2013: The 36th Session of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Governing Council convened from 13-14 February 2013, in Rome, Italy, and focused on building partnerships to reduce poverty and ensure food security in rural communities worldwide.
The Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) will host discussions on priority issues, development and implementation of Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects, and project integration in national development frameworks. The event will bring together focal points from the GEF, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), with representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat, and the GEF Agencies. The event will include exercises on national capacity development (NCSA), results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, synergies in project design, as well as discussions on the GEF 2020 Strategy, the new GEF Fee Policy, and Project Cycle harmonization. The registration deadline for civil society participants is 17 February 2013.
12 February 2013: The Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has entered into a partnership with the East African Development Bank (EADB) to establish a regional collaboration center in Uganda, as part of efforts to improve the regional distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects.
11 February 2013: Climate-related projects implemented in Namibia and Sri Lanka, and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), were two of nine projects highlighted by the "Momentum for Change" initiative during the December 2012 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations held in Doha, Qatar. The initiative, organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, highlights positive developments in climate change adaptation and mitigation that have the potential to be replicated elsewhere.
