20 July 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Tanzania have successfully concluded a seven-year project, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aimed to protect the biodiversity of forestland of the Eastern Arc reserve in Tanzania, 70% of which had been destroyed due to crop shifting and timber harvesting.

July 2010: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released a discussion paper titled "Migratory responses to agricultural risk in Northern Nigeria," which examines the extent to which Northern Nigerian households migrate in response to weather-related variability and shocks.
18 July 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Nigeria has started a series of programmes to raise awareness about the effects of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to explore reduction options.
14 July 2010: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has released a 12-minute film describing the experiences of a pilot project to provide livestock insurance to pastoral farmers in the Marsabit District of Kenya.
July 2010: The June issue of the newsletter for the International Potato Center (CIP), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), highlights ongoing research into the use of sweetpotato vines as a livestock feed supplement to increase productivity and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
13 July 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Botswana, through the Global Environment Facility (GEF), is introducing alternative fuels and solar power to reduce carbon emissions to bring sustainable solutions to environmental and health problems, in addition to saving time for women and girls by reducing the time needed to collect wood.
July 2010: In order to strengthen support to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in their work on climate change in the lead up to the negotiations in Cancun and beyond, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) has committed US$5.6 million toward a programme on "Strategic Investment in Addressing Climate Change in LDCs."
14 July 2010: The fourth Brazil-EU Summit was held in Brasília, Brazil, on 14 July 2010, and attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso. The resulting joint statement contains a section titled “Sustainable development, climate change, energy and biodiversity.”
6 July 2010: A new regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) opened in Praia, Cape Verde, on 6 July. The Centre is supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Governments of Austria, Cape Verde and Spain, as well as through a special partnership between Brazil and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
