July 2010: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released a discussion paper titled "Strategies for Adapting to Climate Change in Rural Sub-Saharan Africa."
This Conference is organized by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), together with the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE), the Ethiopian Mapping Agency (EMA) and the GIS Society of Ethiopia (GSSE). It aims to bring together scholars and professionals from the African and international geo-spatial information science community to present latest achievements, discuss challenges and share experience. The Conference is organized around four themes: food and water security; energy resources; disaster risk reduction; and marine and coastal management.
This training meeting is organized by the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA) and it encompasses climate change journalism, broadcaster responsibility, programme evaluation and agreement on a universal template for internal broadcasting policy for 10 broadcasters. This training workshop is sponsored by the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), a multilateral forum in the UN system that seeks to mobilize the international community to discuss and promote media development in developing countries.

27 July 2010: The 15th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) met from 25-27 July 2010, in Kampala, Uganda, following the 20th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (19-20 July) and the 17th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (22-23 July). Among other items, these meetings featured discussions of ongoing international climate change negotiations.
26 July 2010: The World Bank has supported the launch of a Municipal Waste Compost Program in Uganda, the first African country to successfully register a Program of Activities (POA) under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol.
24 July 2010: The Conference of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) convened in Kampala, Uganda, from 24-25 July 2010, on the margins of the 15th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Summit.
22 July 2010: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have published a report titled "Jatropha: A smallholder bioenergy crop," which discusses the potential for jatropha as a bioenergy crop in semi-arid and remote areas of developing countries.
20 July 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced the opening of applications for the 2010 SEED Awards. The annual competition, run by the SEED Initiative, which is hosted by UNEP, aims to identify and help develop the most promising social and environmental start-ups in emerging and developing countries.
20 July 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Tanzania have successfully concluded a seven-year project, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aimed to protect the biodiversity of forestland of the Eastern Arc reserve in Tanzania, 70% of which had been destroyed due to crop shifting and timber harvesting.
