UNEP and Partners Release Report on Climate Change, Migration and Conflict in the Sahel [viewed]

6 December 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations University (UNU) and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), has released a report titled “Livelihood Security: Climate Change, Migration and Conflict in the Sahel.” The project aimed to analyze the historical climate trends in the region, identify “hotspots” and determine the implications of climate change on natural resource-led livelihoods in the Sahel.

Oceans Day at Durban Forwards Statement to COP 17 [viewed]

3 December 2011: Oceans Day took place on 3 December 2011, at the Rio Conventions Pavilion, on the sidelines of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Durban, South Africa. The one-day meeting was organized in seven sessions, addressing: oceans and coasts at the UNFCCC and at Rio+20; climate change and African fisheries; evidence of climate change from the large marine ecosystems (LMEs); progress on major oceans and climate issues; oceans and climate issues in small island developing States (SIDS); capacity building and public education; and mobilizing for action on oceans and climate.
