FAO Appeals to Build the Resilience of the Horn of Africa [viewed]

FAO23 March 2012: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has called for urgent funding to implement, over the next 90 days, a plan to give farmers and pastoralists in the Horn of Africa means to build resilience to future shocks. Activities for which the $50 million is being sought include crop and livestock production, and cash-for work programmes to restore infrastructure.

COMIFAC/CIFOR Reveals Doubling of Deforestation Rates in Congo Basin [viewed]

Event: Workshop for Sharing Lessons in Africa on Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

This workshop on climate change adaptation in Africa, hosted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), is being held to provide a forum for knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas on common climate change risks, build on lessons learnt from project implementation to formulate common solutions in support of national policy processes and identify best practices for delivering adaptation solutions. The workshop also aims to engage key regional partners and policy makers across the continent on climate change adaptation.

Event: Third Clean Energy Ministerial [viewed]

The Third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM3) will bring together over 20 participating countries to discuss progress made by the 11 CEM clean energy initiatives, increased intergovernmental cooperation, and public-private partnerships in support of clean energy deployment. The CEM is an initiative of the Major Economies Forum (MEF), which was established in early 2009 to facilitate a positive outcome of climate change negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The 23 governments participating in CEM initiatives are Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, and the United States.
