Event: Thirteenth Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate [viewed]

The thirteenth meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate will convene in Crystal City, Virginia, US (just outside Washington, DC), from 17-18 November 2011. US Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs Michael Froman will serve as chair. The meeting will take place at the level of leaders' representatives. Members of the Major Economies Forum include: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the UK, and the United States. In addition, representatives will attend from Argentina, Ecuador, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, and the United Nations. The session will provide an opportunity to exchange views in preparation for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Report of the 15th Adaptation Fund Board Meeting Released [viewed]

Adaptation Fund14 November 2011: The Adaptation Fund has released the report of the 15th meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB), which was held from 15-16 September 2011, in Bonn, Germany. At the meeting, the AFB discussed issues related to accreditation of Regional Implementing Entities (RIE) and National Implementing Entities (NIE), as well as the application of a cap on funding for projects proposed by Multilateral Implementing Entities (MIE).

UN-HABITAT Supports Youth Caravan to Durban [viewed]

14 November 2011: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) is supporting a caravan with 200 youth from Norway and Kenya, which started off from Nairobi, Kenya, and will end in Durban, South Africa, at the start of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The caravan aims to bring awareness about climate change issues to communities through Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa.

ITPGR Celebrates Tenth Anniversary, Releases List of Benefit-sharing Grantees [viewed]

14 November 2011: On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), a high-level celebration was hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the ITPGR Secretariat released the list of new projects to be funded under the Treaty's Benefit-sharing Fund, to support farmers and breeders to adapt key crops to climate change.

GEF Council, LDCF and SCCF Approve Projects on Climate Change and Blue Carbon [viewed]

10 November 2011: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, at its 41st Council Meeting, approved decisions on the administration of the GEF as well as a work programme of 40 stand-alone projects and nine programmatic approaches amounting to US$516.40 million, including several climate change and energy-related projects. Projects were also approved within the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) and Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF).

UNDP Releases First Baobab Journal on Africa Adaptation Programme [viewed]

November 2011: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released the first edition of The Baobab Coalition Journal, a publication that reports on the community activities and efforts under the Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP). The Journal features articles on progress of each of the national AAP teams, introductions to new tools and techniques, papers analyzing issues of concern, reports on recent meetings, and a calendar of upcoming activities.
