IEA3 July 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a report titled “Energy Policies of IEA Countries- Switzerland 2012 Review,” which lauds Swiss electricity market reforms and high levels of oil and gas security, however the report envisions difficulties for the planned stabilization of electricity demand.

Event: Infrastructure for Climate Change: The Challenge of Constructing Infrastructure Systems for a New Environmental Reality [viewed]

This one-day meeting, sponsored by the Latin American Development Bank (CAF) and organized by CAF and the Colombian Government, will bring together government representatives from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, representatives from various regional and international organizations, as well as experts from Asia, the US, Latin America and Europe to discuss the challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather events to Latin American water, energy, transport, housing and health infrastructure. The meeting also will launch a "Center of thought on Infrastructure for Climate Change" to act as a permanent high-level consultative center composed of national and international experts, devoted to the issue of making Latin American infrastructure climate-resilient.

Event: Bogota Summit: Cities and Climate Change [viewed]

Organized by the Mayor of Bogota, with support from the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the French Embassy, the French Development Agency (AFD), Avina Foundation, FINDETER bank, the El Tiempo news group, UN-HABITAT and others, this summit aims to bring together experts, finance organizations, international organizations and Latin American regional, national and municipal leaders to discuss concrete actions Latin American cities can take to mitigate and adapt to climate change and convert them into resilient, low-carbon cities. The conference will include a series of thematic debates and workshops on key issues, such as housing density, sustainable construction, energy efficiency, water services, risk management and mobility management.

IEA Executive Director: Urban Policies Must Change to Meet Sustainable Energy Challenge [viewed]

IEA Data Visualization Tool Illustrates Future Energy Scenarios [viewed]

IEA27 June 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has created an interactive graphical tool to illustrate future energy scenarios out to 2050, allowing users to view and adjust: energy flows from fuel to end use in transport, industry and buildings; emissions reductions based on national context, technology, sector and climate change scenario; and transportation based on national context, climate change scenarios and a range of transport indicators.

Event: 64th Session of the WMO Executive Council [viewed]

The Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is holding its annual meeting from 25 June-3 July to review progress in the provision of critical weather, climate and water services to meet the growing needs of society. The 64th session of the Executive Council will consider WMO priorities, including: the Global Framework for Climate Services; enhanced disaster risk reduction (DRR); improved observation and information systems; more efficient meteorological services for the aviation sector; and capacity-strengthening of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in developing countries.

EEA Highlights Increase in Sale of Fuel-Efficient Vehicles in the EU [viewed]

Rio+20 Adopts "The Future We Want" Outcome Document, Voluntary Pledges Reported to Reach US$513 Billion [viewed]

22 June 2012: The third and final meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), Pre-Conference Informal Consultations Facilitated by the Host Country, and the UNCSD convened back-to-back in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 13-22 June 2012. During their ten days in Rio, government delegations concluded negotiations on the Rio outcome document, titled “The Future We Want.”
