Event: Ad Hoc Expert Meeting on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation: A Challenge for Global Ports [viewed]

Organized by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), this meeting will provide a platform for expert discussions on how best to improve the understanding of climate change impacts on ports and develop effective and appropriate adaptation response measures. It will bring together policy makers and planning authorities, port industry representatives and operators, port users, relevant international organizations, as well as scientists and engineers, to share their insights and discuss relevant issues with a view to identifying: vulnerabilities and risks; associated adaptation requirements; existing best practices, information and data sources; issues requiring further study, including data requirements; and partners and mechanisms for effective collaboration.

Event: ICAO Aviation and Sustainable Alternative Fuels Workshop [viewed]

This International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) workshop will provide a forum for information exchange on the state of worldwide activities on sustainable alternative fuels, especially biofuels, for aviation. In addition, the workshop aims to enhance dialogue among member States, financial institutions, fuel producers and operators over project financing for sustainable alternative aviation fuels. Further discussions will focus on, among others: harmonizing life cycle analysis methodologies; sustainability criteria; legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure availability of supply of sustainable alternative fuels for aviation; and the role of sustainable alternative fuels in member States' emissions reduction actions.

CDM Project in Egypt Replaces Polluting Taxi Fleet [viewed]

European Commission Legislation Incentivizes Eco-innovation for Cars [viewed]

Ban on Heavy Fuel Oil in Antarctic Enters into Force [viewed]

29 July 2011: The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has reported that a ban on heavy fuel oil from the Antarctic will enter into force on 1 August 2011, and that a new North American Emission Control Area (ECA) will be created. The ban and ECA aim to reduce pollution in the Antarctic region.

IDB Joins Airplane Companies in Funding Research on Jet Biofuel from Sugarcane [viewed]
