Event: Assistance for Action: Aviation and Climate Change [viewed]

This seminar is organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and will provide states and other stakeholders with an opportunity to exchange views and information on the assistance required to develop and implement policies and actions related to international aviation and climate change. EU Releases New List of LIFE Programme Projects [viewed]

20 July 2012: The EU has issued a list of new projects funded by the LIFE Programme, which is the primary fiscal instrument the EU uses to fund environment and conservation projects contributing over €2.5 billion to over 3500 projects since its inception in 1992. The newly funded projects cover, inter alia: biodiversity and endangered species conservation; waste management and recycling; ecosystem and habitat conservation; water systems; adaptation to climate change; greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation; renewable energy and energy efficiency; air pollution; green transportation; soil degradation; and oceans and coasts.

ICAO Agrees on Carbon Dioxide Metric System [viewed]

11 July 2012: The International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) agreed on a new carbon dioxide metric system for characterizing aircraft emissions, at a meeting in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The new system will account for fuel burn performance, fuselage geometry and maximum takeoff weight at three different cruise conditions.

CAI Reviews Urban Transport Demand Management in LAC [viewed]

July 2012: The Clean Air Institute (CAI) has issued a policy paper titled "Transport Demand Management: Opportunities and Challenges in Urban Areas of Latin America," which looks at the strategies that Latin American cities may consider to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through cutting unnecessary unsustainable travel and promoting more sustainable modes of transport.
