GLF Highlights Climate-related Land-Use Issues and Research [viewed]

glf_paris7 December 2015: The 2015 Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) gathered more than 3,000 people to discuss priority issues including land restoration, financing for sustainable landscapes and strengthening the role of indigenous peoples and local communities in land-related decision-making. Several publications were launched in concert with the Forum, which convened from 5-6 December 2015, on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference.

Coalition of Financial Institutions Sign Five Principles for Mainstreaming Climate Action [viewed]

finantial_institutions7 December 2015: A coalition of 26 financial institutions has signed on to five voluntary principles, titled ‘Mainstreaming Climate Action Within Financial Institutions,' pledging to scale up their efforts to address climate change and to continue to integrate climate considerations into their investments and advisory functions. The principles outline how financial institutions can: commit to climate strategies; manage climate risks; promote climate smart objectives; improve climate performance; and account for climate action.

Korean Cities Agree to Hold Annual Forum on Sendai Framework [viewed]

unisdr_southkorea7 December 2015: An Annual Forum for Korean Cities was launched by 156 Korean municipalities in order to strengthen implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The decision to launch this initiative happened during a City Resilience Summit taking place at the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Global Education and Training Institute (GETI), in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

COP 21 Ministerial Week Commences [viewed]

cop217 December 2015: The COP 21 ministerial week opened in Paris, France, beginning with the joint COP/CMP high-level segment, a contact group on JI meeting under the CMP, minister-led informal consultations under the Paris Committee on "support: MOI (finance, technology and capacity building),” as well as a meeting of the Committee itself, and bilaterals conducted by co-facilitators on: acceleration of pre-2020 action; ambition, including long-term goals and periodic review; differentiation, in particular with regard to mitigation, finance and transparency; and “support: MOI (finance, technology and capacity building).”

Africa Transport Forum, Africities Discuss Sustainable Urbanization [viewed]

The African Development Bank's (AfDB) Africa Transport Forum 2015 stressed the role of green, inclusive transport in stimulating Africa's sustainable development and ensuring sustainable urbanization. Participants at the Africities Summit presented a common urban agenda ahead of the Third UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), making Africa the first region to do so.
