Event: Tenth Session of the Open Working Group on SDGs [viewed]

At the close of the Sixth Session of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG 6) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Co-Chairs outlined options for the next phase of the process. The dates of a further set of formal OWG meetings were finalized at the conclusion of OWG 7. They will take place on: 3-5 March (OWG 9), 31 March - 4 April (OWG 10), 5-9 May (OWG 11), 16-20 June (OWG 12) and 14-18 July 2014 (OWG 13).

Event: Ninth Session of the Open Working Group on SDGs [viewed]

At the close of the Sixth Session of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Co-Chairs outlined initial thoughts on the next steps in the process, including a further set of formal OWG meetings following OWG 8 in February. The dates were revised at the conclusion of OWG 7. The next round of meetings will take place on: 3-5 March (OWG 9), 31 March - 4 April (OWG 10), 5-9 May (OWG 11), 16-20 June (OWG 12) and 14-18 July 2014 (OWG 13).

UNGA's Oceans and Law of the Sea Resolution Focuses on Marine Debris, Climate Change [viewed]

UNGA9 December 2013: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted, by a recorded vote of 115 in favor to one against (Turkey), with two abstentions (Colombia, Venezuela), its annual omnibus resolution on oceans and the law of the sea (Resolution A/RES/68/70).

UNEP Atlas Shows Rapid Environmental Change in Arab Region [viewed]

UNEP10 December 2013 : A report, released by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), and supported by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), indicates that the pace of environmental change in the Arab region may be faster than in the rest of the world due to growing populations and increasing environmental pressures.

UNCCD's GM and IOM Collaborate on Land Degradation and Migration in West Africa [viewed]

Event: 14th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit: Attaining Energy, Water and Food Security for All [viewed]

Organized annually by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) since 2001, the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) serves as a platform exchange global knowledge on sustainable development. In 2014 the conference theme will be "Attaining Energy, Water and Food Security for All" and will hold thematic tracks on these specific areas of energy, water and food security. These topics were chosen due to their centrality and interrelation in alleviating poverty and to creating a climate resilient and robust green economy, and the current threat to water and food security stemming from the current and growing overconsumption of water and other natural resources. DSDS 2014 will also award the Sustainable Development Leadership Award.

Event: Second Workshop of the LEDS-LAC Regional Platform [viewed]

The Second Workshop of the Latin American Regional Platform on Low Emission Strategies (LEDS LAC) of the Global Alliance on Development Strategies Low in Emissions (LEDS Global Partnership) will provide a forum for officials from Latin American governments and international organizations and technical experts and other stakeholders in the region to share experiences and best practices, participate in training, establish collaborative links and work, and discuss innovative ways to achieve low-carbon development that is also resilient to the impacts of climate change. The workshop will occur against the backdrop of InterClima, an annual multi-stakeholder forum hosted by Peru's Environment Ministry (MINAM) that seeks to provide Peruvian stakeholders with training, discussion, information exchange and opportunities to forge partnerships regarding climate change, low-carbon development and climate resilience.
