EU, Republic of Korea Discuss Climate, Sustainable Development, Energy [viewed]

eu_rok15 September 2015: The anticipated global climate agreement to be adopted in December 2015, energy efficiency and biodiversity conservation were among the topics addressed at the Eighth Bilateral Summit of the Republic of Korea and the EU. The two parties delivered a joint statement underlining their commitment to work with other countries to deliver an “ambitious” and “effective” agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the Paris Climate Change Conference.

Four Arctic Council Working Groups Address Cross-Cutting Issues at "Historic" Joint Meetings [viewed]

Arctic Council18 September 2015: Four of the six Arctic Council Working Groups met in parallel from 14-18 September 2015, in Tromsø, Norway. According to the Arctic Council Secretariat, the meeting was unprecedented, allowing the four Working Groups to meet in a joint session mid-week to discuss cross-cutting issues. Arctic State and indigenous Permanent Participant organization delegates to the Arctic Contaminants Action Program (ACAP), Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) and Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) Working Groups were joined by accredited intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and non-Arctic State observers for the meetings.

Eye on Earth Receives 120 SDG Project Submissions [viewed]

UNEP Launches Law and Environmental Ontology Portal [viewed]

unep_informea17 September 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) launched the Law and Environmental Ontology Portal (LEO) at the 6th Multilateral Environment Agreement Information and Knowledge Management (MEA IKM) Initiative Steering Committee Meeting, held from 15-17 September 2015, in Montreux, Switzerland. Funded by the European Union, LEO provides an overview of relationships between multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), as well as concepts, definitions and synonyms found in these conventions.

UNGA 70 Opening Highlights Agenda 2030, Climate Agreement [viewed]

unga7016 September 2015: The 70th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) opened with expressions of optimism for a historic year in which the UN is expected to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and a universal agreement on climate change. Speakers also recognized the turmoil of peace and security, and migration challenges. UNGA 70 opened at UN Headquarters in New York, US, on 15 September 2015.

UNEP, CalPERS Call for Sustainable Institutional Investing [viewed]

Experts Discuss SDGs' Creation, Implementation [viewed]

WRI16 September 2015: The World Resources Institute (WRI) hosted a press call on the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with experts and officials who were closely involved in formulating the Goals. The speakers reviewed how the Goals were created, emphasized novel characteristics of the SDGs, particularly universality, highlighted key steps in SDG implementation, and noted the Goals' resonance with civil society. The SDGs are part of the post-2015 development agenda, also called the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

PFII Chair Stresses Indigenous Rights in Climate, 2030 Agenda [viewed]
