Coalition Announces US$80 Million for Climate Risk Early Warning Systems [viewed]

cop212 December 2015: A coalition of countries and international organizations including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the World Bank's Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) launched the Climate Risk Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative, in order to: strengthen support for early warning systems in vulnerable countries; protect and shelter populations exposed to extreme climate events; and mobilize additional financing.

International Solar Energy Alliance Launched [viewed]

india_france30 November 2015: The International Solar Energy Alliance, initiated by the Governments of India and France at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, has garnered the support of 120 countries. Among other commitments, the supporting countries express their intention to collectively mobilize more than US$1000 billion by 2030 to scale up solar energy deployment.

Climate Action and UNEP Launch Climate Action Publication 2015-2016 [viewed]

climate_action30 November 2015: Introducing the ninth edition of the 'Climate Action Publication,' UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Achim Steiner indicates that it shows how various elements can fit together to deliver lasting, meaningful change through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the “Paris climate deal.” Steiner's foreword to the publication notes that the integration of environmental sustainability, social equity and economic progress in the 2030 Agenda “is galvanizing momentum for a strong, universal climate agreement.” The publication was produced for the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC.

IEA Releases India Energy Outlook [viewed]

IEA27 November 2015: India is poised to demand more new energy over the next 25 years than any other country, according to a World Energy Outlook (WEO) Special Report by the International Energy Agency (IEA). The report, titled ‘India Energy Outlook,' finds that 600 million new electricity consumers will be added in the country by 2040, requiring more than US$140 billion in energy supply and energy efficiency investments annually.

APEC Ministers Commit to Implementing UN Goals, Address Energy Intensity [viewed]
