24 February 2009: The Third International Conference on Community Based Adaptation (CBA) to Climate Change took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 18-24 February 2009.
23 February 2009: Speakers at the opening session of the Intersessional Preparatory Meeting (IPM) for the 17th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD17) highlighted linkages between climate change and CSD17's thematic cluster of issues: agriculture, Africa, drought, desertification, land and rural development. The IPM is meeting in New York, US, from 23-27 February 2009.
18 February 2009: The Kyoto Protocol's joint implementation (JI) mechanism has accredited its first third party verifier, TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH, which will determine the acceptability of emission reduction projects and verify emission reductions achieved.
18 February 2009: The findings of a report supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), entitled “Environment Outlook in the Amazonia: GEO Amazonia,” reveal the variety of environmental degradation occurring in the Amazon region of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. The publication is part of UNEP's Global Environment Outlook (GEO) series and highlights population growth, urbanization and expanded economic activity, and the resulting deforestation, loss of biodiversity and climate change impacts in the region.

13 February 2009: “On the Frontlines of Climate Change,” an internet forum launched by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, has published a lead article on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD).
