First Great Green Wall Global Conference Reaffirms Commitments to Restore Africa's Drylands [viewed]

GGWSSI13 May 2016: The first Global Conference on the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and Sahel Initiative (GGWSSI) issued the 'Dakar Declaration,' which aims to reverse land degradation and improve economic opportunities for populations across the Sahel and Sahara belt. Convened from 5-7 May 2016, in Dakar, Senegal, the Conference sought to build on the momentum generated at a High Level Summit on the GGWSSI held on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Conference, where US$4 billion was pledged to step up implementation of the Initiative over the next five years.

UNEP's 'Our Planet' Features High-level Reflections on SDG Implementation [viewed]

G7 Environment, Education Ministers Showcase SDG Implementation [viewed]

Also in advance of the Summit, education ministers convened for the first G7 Education Ministers' meeting, and issued a declaration reaffirming commitments to quality education. Energy Actors Showcase Innovative Sustainable Energy Tools, Resources, Technologies and Business Models [viewed]

Event: Fifth Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum [viewed]

The Fifth Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum will convene under the theme 'Adapting and Living below 2°C: Bridging the Gaps in Policy & Practice'. One of the biggest climate change adaptation events in the region, the Forum will bring together representatives from over 50 countries, including policymakers, scientists, donors, and youth. The Forum will address adaptation planning, financing for adaptation, climate-resilient development and cross-learning across actors. It will explore platforms and concrete pathways to enhance partnerships among governments, civil society and business. The Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment are organizing the event.
