Event: Seminar on Post-2015 Development Agenda, Climate Change, and Island Partnership [viewed]

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY), the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), and the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) are co-hosting a seminar on the 'Post-2015 Development Agenda, Climate Change and Island Partnership,' at the TECO-NY office on 22 September 2014, from 2-5 pm. The seminar will explore the intersections between the negotiation on the post-2015 development agenda, the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit, and the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in 2014.

UNDP Executive Board Briefed on Post-2015 Agenda, Accountability [viewed]

UNDP5 September 2014: At the second regular session of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Executive Board, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark discussed: UNDP responses to current crises; UNDP's support for global development processes; implementation of UNDP's Strategic Plan; UNDP resources; and transparency and accountability. The UN development system is "determined to be fit for purpose for the post-2015 agenda,” Clark said, and the UN Development Group (UNDG) is assessing ways to ensure its members work together in a coherent, results-oriented and strategic manner.

Event: 5th Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development [viewed]

The Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD) was established in 2006 to promote sustainable housing and urban development for human settlements in the Asia-Pacific Region. The theme of the 5th APMCHUD is 'Equal Opportunity for Sustainable Development'. Sub-themes will include: inclusive urban planning; upgrading informal settlements; inclusive technology for the delivery of basic services; financing sustainable housing; and urban development for equal opportunity responding to natural and climate change-related disasters.

SIDS Conference Concludes with 297 Partnerships, Adoption of Outcome Document [viewed]

Samoa Partnerships Commitment4 September 2014: The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) took place from 1-4 September 2014, in Apia, Samoa, on the theme of ‘The Sustainable Development of SIDS Through Genuine and Durable Partnerships.' The Conference produced an outcome document, titled ‘SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway,' which was negotiated during the preparatory process at UN Headquarters in New York, US, and adopted during the closing plenary.

SIDS Conference Discusses Climate Change, Resilience, Social Development, NCDs [viewed]

2sepsids2 September 2014: Small island developing States (SIDS) and development partners continued their general debate at the Third International Conference on SIDS on 2 September, in Apia, Samoa, addressing issues of debt restructuring, SIDS' resilience, waste management, climate change, sea-level rise and recovery from extreme weather events. Several SIDS speakers stressed that access to financing and operationalization of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) require the attention of the international community, in the quest for sustainable development.

UNDP - GEF2 September 2014: Small island developing States (SIDS) can serve as models for global sustainable development solutions that promote human development, reduce poverty and build resilience, according to a report by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). ‘Island Innovations – UNDP and GEF: Leveraging the Environment for the Sustainable Development of SIDS' highlights "whole island" approaches to sustainable development, incorporating climate change adaptation, conserving land, ocean and water resources, generating economic growth and enhancing local capacity.

WHO Conference Calls for Strengthening Health Resilience to Climate Change [viewed]

SIDS Opening Session Links Small Islands and Global Issues, Highlights Partnerships [viewed]

SIDS.1sep1 September 2014: Formal proceedings for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) began with an opening plenary followed by a general debate among UN Member States. A parallel multi-stakeholder partnership dialogue took place on sustainable economic development in the afternoon, and numerous side events convened through the day and evening.
