Event: Climate Solutions 2013 [viewed]

World Climate Ltd and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) are collaborating to provide a complementary series of activities over two days, alongside the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to create a business platform for debate and action. Day 1 – World Climate Summit on The Road to Paris – will focus on providing key public and private sector solutions and a business process to complement the agreement reached in Paris. Key drivers discussed will include finance enabling, energy transformation, sustainable innovation and public-private partnerships (PPPs). Day 2, the World Business Council on Sustainable Development's (WBCSD) Business Day on Climate Solutions in Action will focus on business ideas that contribute to closing the ambition gap and longer-term solutions, and the convergence of activities and agendas, which will be critical for a successful agreement in Paris 2015. World Climate Ltd. is a global multistakeholder strategic marketing and advocacy platform for the green economy, working in partnership with leading global organizations, media and Fortune 500 companies. WBCSD is a CEO-led organization of companies that galvanizes the global business community to create a sustainable future for business, society and the environment.

UN Secretary-General Launches SE4ALL Energy Efficiency Hub [viewed]

United Nations23 October 2013: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) opened a new global center for Energy Efficiency  as part of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative. The Energy Efficiency Hub (EE Hub), in Copenhagen, Denmark, will seek to help “drastically increase” energy access, energy efficiency and renewable energy deployment.

Sub-National REDD+ Projects Examined by CIFOR [viewed]

CIFOR28 October 2013: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released a report on the implementation of sub-national initiatives related to forest carbon in Brazil, Cameroon, Indonesia, Peru, Tanzania and Viet Nam. The report examines the intended and potential outcomes of such sub-national REDD+ projects as well as conditions for success and the role of stakeholder engagement.

Event: Rights, Governance and Climate Change Workshop [viewed]

The workshop on Rights, Governance and Climate Change will take place on the sidelines of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It will examine the use of substantive and procedural rights to design, implement and support effective, equitable solutions to address climate change and related governance challenges. The workshop is expected to result in proposals for research and collaborative projects on the relationship between rights, governance and climate change. The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Yale University's Governance, Environment and Markets Initiative (GEM) are organizing the workshop in collaboration with the University of Warsaw's Faculty of Law and Administration and the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL).

CSO Consultation Discusses GEF2020 Strategy Ahead of Council Meeting [viewed]

Naoko Ishii, GEF CEO and Chairperson4 November 2013: The GEF Council Consultation Meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) convened on 4 November 2013, the day before the 45th meeting of the GEF Council opened in Washington, DC, US. During an opening dialogue, Global Environment Facility (GEF) CEO and Chairperson Naoko Ishii discussed the GEF 2020 strategy and emphasized that it is important to have a long-term strategy encompassing an environmental degradation driver-focused approach. She also welcomed Conservation International and WWF-US as two new GEF Project Agencies.
