Event: 15th Session of Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues [viewed]

The 15th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PFII) will bring Member States and indigenous peoples' representatives together to discuss: implementation of the six mandated areas of the PFII with reference to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP); conflict, peace and resolution; and coordination among the three UN mechanisms on indigenous affairs. A dialogue will take place with the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Chair of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The session will also consider the future work of the PFII, and emerging issues.

Event: United Nations Environment Programme Stakeholder Forum: Ottawa [viewed]

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for North America is hosting a stakeholder

forum at the University of Ottawa on 26 May 2015. The session will address UNEP's contributions to the United

Nations Post-2015 Development Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) process. It will also inform participants

about the implementation of key decisions from the first United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), including resolutions regarding air quality, chemicals with a focus on lead in paint, and illegal trade in wildlife.

FfD3 Opens First Additional Drafting Session [viewed]

On the first day, delegates provided general feedback on the revised draft of the Addis Ababa Accord, and considered the first nine paragraphs of the document in paragraph-by-paragraph negotiations.

ACT 2015 Outlines Legal Suggestions for Paris Agreement [viewed]

act_201512 May 2015: The Agreement on Climate Transformation 2015 (ACT 2015) has released a working paper on legal suggestions for UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiators to secure a successful outcome in Paris. The paper, titled ‘Getting Specific on the 2015 Climate Change Agreement: Suggestions for the Legal Text with an Explanatory Memorandum,' was prepared by a consortium that comprises leading research institutions and universities that have come together to catalyze discussion and build momentum ahead of Paris.

EU Energy Security Conference Discusses Market Integration, Ukraine, Sustainable Energy [viewed]

eca_logo8 May 2015: The European Court of Auditors (ECA) organized a conference on energy security that focused on obstacles to the completion of the internal energy market and the role of Ukraine in European energy supply. During the half-day event, participants heard presentations by several stakeholder representatives, and a keynote speech stressing the role of energy efficiency and sustainable energy sources in increasing the EU's energy security in the context of COP21 and the EU Energy Union.

Co-Facilitators Identify 21 SDG Targets for Revision [viewed]

post20157 May 2015: The Co-Facilitators of the intergovernmental negotiation process on the post-2015 development agenda have issued a revised proposal on targets for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The revised proposal, which addresses 21 targets, under 11 SDGs, is expected to be discussed at the fifth intergovernmental negotiation session, convening on 18-22 May 2015.

Mediterranean Countries Prepare for COP 21 [viewed]

ufm7 May 2015: In conjunction with the Mediterranean Climate Week, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) organized an Informal High-Level Conference on Climate Change. The Conference focused on supporting national and regional efforts to prepare climate change goals, and thus advance progress toward a universal climate change agreement to be adopted at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC in Paris, France, in December 2015.

GFDRR Calls for Strengthening Disaster Recovery Systems [viewed]

Event: Workshop for the Asia-Pacific and Eastern European Regions on NAMAs [viewed]

The UNFCCC Secretariat is organizing a technical capacity-building workshop for the Asia-Pacific and Eastern European regions on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) to: facilitate the exchange of best practices and lessons learnt in preparation and implementation of NAMAs by providing a platform to showcase NAMAs and innovative financing options; collaborate with international partners to conduct the workshops and ensure synergy, coherence, cost effectiveness and avoid duplication; provide a platform for networking by bringing experts of developing countries and international organizations/donors together; provide partners from international organizations with an opportunity to better understand capacity building needs of countries in the region so that they can target their technical support to meet specific needs of developing countries; and explore how and by what means the experiences gained in implementation of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) standards could be linked with NAMAs. Similar workshops were also held in 2013 and 2014.
