UNDP Conducts Survey on Africa-Asia Drought Risk Management [viewed]

UNDPMay 2010: The UN Development Programme Drylands Development Centre (UNDP-DDC) is conducting a survey on the Africa-Asia Drought Risk Management Peer Assistance (AADP) Project under the framework of the Integrated Drylands Development Programme. The project aims to create an enabling environment for inter-regional knowledge sharing among drought-prone countries, while facilitating the scaling up of proven drought risk management (DRM) practices in Africa and Asia.

Event: An Investment Forum: Mobilizing Private Investment in Trees and Landscape Restoration in Africa [viewed]

This event is co-organized by PROFOR, the World Bank, IUCN, Ecoagriculture Partners, Terrafrica and the World Agrofrestry Centre to generate greater interest in agroforestry and other landscape approaches, particularly from the private sector. It aims to illustrate that investing in degraded landscapes holds the promise of a 'triple win' by improving rural livelihoods, increasing resilience in the face of climate extremes, and mitigating climate change.

2 May 2011: The 19th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 19) opened in New York, US, on 2 May 2011, and will run through 13 May 2011. This session will negotiate policy decisions related to the thematic cluster of transport, chemicals, hazardous waste, mining and the 10-year framework of programmes (10YFP) on sustainable consumption and production (SCP).

Event: OECD DAC Green Growth and Development Workshop [viewed]

This Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC) workshop will offer an interactive platform for discussion of the relevance of green growth to developing countries. It will involve four chaired roundtable discussions on: how a green growth lens could be applied to development on the way to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20); the potential impacts of a global green growth transition on developing and least developed countries; how green growth short-run costs and technology requirements can be met; and opportunities for green growth to influence discussions at UNFCCC COP 17 in December 2011 in Durban, South Africa.

Event: Regional Conference on Renewable Energy Development in the Countries of Central Asia and CIS [viewed]

This Conference will review the results and lessons learned by the UN Development Programme (UNDP)/Global Environment Facility (GEF) project on the development of a wind power market in Kazakhstan, including development of a legal framework and state regulation of renewable energy, development of local capacity while implementing wind parks projects, support in developing first projects, results achieved, experience and lessons learned during project implementation. Participants will have an opportunity to share views and experience in the development of renewable energy in Central Asia, and to develop recommendations on policies and cooperation in the field of renewables. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, the Ministry of Environment, the Kazakhstan Electricity Association (KEA) and UNDP Kazakhstan.
