Event: Seventh Africa Carbon Forum [viewed]

The Seventh Africa Carbon Forum (ACF) will focus on finance, development and investment opportunities related to climate change and of interest to project developers and policymakers. Participants will learn about international carbon market trends, opportunities under the Green Climate Fund (GCF), efforts to increase demand for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) credits and results-based financing opportunities. The Government of Morocco will host a high-level ministerial segment, during which African countries will have the opportunity to discuss expectations and planned contributions to the anticipated 2015 climate change agreement. ACF is jointly organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UNEP-DTU Partnership, World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB) and International Emissions Trading Association (IETA).

Event: World Water Day 2015 [viewed]

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as the first World Water Day. In 2015, the theme for World Water Day is 'Water and Sustainable Development'. The Day will seek to encourage the exploration of how water links to all areas we need to consider to create the future we want. UNSG Updates Membership on Climate Negotiations [viewed]

bankimoon-warsaw23 February 2015: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon briefed UN Member States on the status of global climate change negotiations. He discussed progress made at recent meetings of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and said a few key issues remain to be decided, including climate finance, adaptation and resilience, and accelerating action.

CCAC Meeting Opens in Kathmandu, Welcomes New Members [viewed]

Event: Vienna Energy Forum 2015 [viewed]

The 4th biennial Vienna Energy Forum, which will take place from 18=20 June 2015, at the Hofburg Palace, will focus on the theme ‘Sustainable Energy for Inclusive Development'. The Vienna Energy Forum 2015 will emphasize the multiple benefits of the post-2015 development and climate agendas and showcase the best practices and actions on the ground that can contribute to both agendas. Energy practitioners, policymakers and thought leaders will discuss the interconnections of sustainable energy and inclusive development in the areas of partnerships, finance, policy, technology, capacity building and knowledge management. The event will also explore the consequences of trends such as population growth and urbanization, as well as addressing the resulting increase in energy demand. Other topics will include South-South cooperation, and energy, water, food and health linkages. The event is organized by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), IIASA (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis), SE4ALL (Sustainable Energy for All), BMEIA (Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs), and ADA (Austrian Development Agency).

Event: World Green Economy Summit 2015 [viewed]

The second edition of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will take place from 22-23 April in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). An initiative of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), WGES 2015 aims to: develop the WGES Public-Private Partnership and Green Economy Marketplace Platform initiatives; follow up on commitments made at WGES 2014 through the Dubai Declaration; position WGES as the premier international platform for the green economy and Dubai as the 'capital of the green economy'; and create strong linkages to the UN climate agreement 2015 through the Road to Paris initiative and the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Taking place under the theme 'The Global Green Economy,' WGES 2015 is aimed at a multi-takeholder audience, and will feature plenary sessions, roundtables, workshops, networking opportunities and an exhibition. The 16th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), will be held in parallel with WGES 2015, from 21-23 April, at the same venue.

Member States Seek to "Break with the Past" in Post-2015 Declaration [viewed]

photo_post2015_in220 February 2015: The second session of the intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda focused on the declaration component of the outcome that will be adopted at the Summit of Heads of State and Government on the post-2015 development agenda in September 2015. A summary of the discussion will be produced by the Secretariat, for reference, while the “discussion document” circulated and discussed during the meeting remains “a document without status” but will assist in creating the zero draft of the Summit outcome, according to the Co-Facilitators.

CBD Secretariat Calls for Input on New and Emerging Issues, Climate Change-Related Matters [viewed]

CBD17 February 2015: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a series of notifications calling for views and information on new and emerging issues to be considered by the CBD Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), the potential impacts of geoengineering on biodiversity, and other climate change-related activities, including experiences with ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Asia-Pacific Countries to Jointly Address Hydro-Meteorological Disasters [viewed]

logos_escap_typhoon13 February 2015: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) hosted a meeting during which representatives from 17 countries agreed to work together to build resilience to hydro-meteorological disasters through enhanced regional cooperation, and to share knowledge, review scientific and technological advances, and identify gaps across the region. The joint session of the ESCAP/World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Typhoon Committee (TC) and the WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC) was the first time the two groups met jointly in 18 years.
