PROFOR Launches Updated Book on Managing Southern African Woodlands [viewed]

1 December 2011: The World Bank's Programme on Forests (PROFOR) has launched an updated version of its study on the miombo woodlands of southern Africa. The original study explored policies, incentives and options for the rural poor. The updated study revisits this situation in the context of a changing climate, growing food insecurity and increasing demand for woodfuel and charcoal.

Event: Durban Global Business Day [viewed]

This event is organized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in partnership with the National Business Initiative (NBI). It is the fifth global business day in the context of the UNFCCC negotiations, and is being organized under the theme “Keep moving - Climate, business and growth for all.” Participants will engage in panel discussions on: why a Durban deal is relevant for business; climate finance; climate adaptation; and why solutions to climate need to be driven by business. The afternoon discussions will focus on the challenges for South Africa in responding to climate change.

OECD Paper Assesses Private Sector Engagement in Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

25 November 2011: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published a working paper titled "Private Sector Engagement in Adaptation to Climate Change: Approaches to Managing Climate Risks." The paper notes that, while there is a high level of awareness among companies of the broad range of risks posed by climate change, not all perceive their businesses as vulnerable, and a gap exists between the risk assessments companies have performed and their implementation of risk management actions.

UNFCCC Announces 2011 DNA Communicators of the Year Showcase Winners [viewed]

28 November 2011: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) designated national authorities (DNAs) of Spain, Saudi Arabia, Côte d'Ivoire and Colombia have been announced as the winners of the 2011 DNA Communicators of the Year Showcase. The showcase was launched in 2010 to share and recognize DNAs' work in promoting the CDM in their countries.
