31 January 2011: The 16th Summit of the African Union (AU), which took place from 24-31 January 2011, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme "Towards greater unity and integration through shared values," considered, among other pressing issues, the impact of climate change and international cooperation.
2 February 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the World Resources Institute (WRI) have launched the World Resources Report website, which will gather expert views on responding to climate risks in developing countries to inform the preparation of the World Resources Report.
28 January 2010: The 41st World Economic Forum Annual Meeting was held in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, from 24-28 January 2010, gathering over 2,500 leaders from industry, government, international organizations, academia and civil society. Discussions focused on green growth, climate change and the water-food-energy nexus.
28 January 2011: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and a group of chief executives launched "Global Compact LEAD," a new platform created by the UN Global Compact to enhance environmental, social and governance performance and set a new benchmark for corporate sustainability, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
28 January 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) launched the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism, which aims to influence policies on sustainable tourism, develop projects and provide a global platform for communication.
27 January 2011: The Adaptation Fund Board Secretariat has posted proposals on its website for projects from Uruguay, Ecuador, Eritrea, Solomon Islands and Tanzania.
24 January 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has requested submission of views with regard to relevant safeguards in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+).
20 January 2011: World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2011, which convened from 17-20 January 2011, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), was organized around a high-level segment that focused on policy and strategy, and three forums on business, technology and finance. Participants considered issues such as international future energy policy, financing future energy, solar energy, green cities, sustainable buildings, wind energy, biofuels, e-mobility, energy storage, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS), energy efficiency, smart grids, and nuclear energy.
17 January 2011: The fourth World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2011 opened in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 17 January 2011. The first day of this four-day event was organized around the theme “Policy and Strategy Forum,” and comprised opening statements from HE Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO Masdar, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Heads of State and other dignitaries, followed by special addresses and ministerial panels.
