Event: Connecting for Climate: Technology, Creativity and Action [viewed]

At this event the World Bank will celebrate the winning entries in the second annual "Apps for Climate" competition. The "Apps for Climate" is a creative way to encourage innovative, cutting-edge ways to use open climate data. The event will also see the launch of the joint project between Connect4Climate and MTV called "Voices4Climate," a new global competition in search of the world's most powerful climate stories told through photos, videos, and music videos. Winning entries will be featured at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC at the end of 2012. Connect4Climate (C4C) is sponsored by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the World Bank, and the Italian Ministry for the Environment. The goal of C4C is to raise awareness about climate change issues around the world, with an initial focus on Africa.

Agriculture and Rural Development Day Issues Communiqué to Rio+20 [viewed]

22 June 2012: The Fourth Agriculture and Rural Development Day (ARDD) convened on 18 June 2012, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). ARDD aimed to promote concrete steps towards sustainable food systems, and to put agriculture at the core of sustainable development policies. The main message conveyed was that while agriculture is affected by climate change, it has a key role to play in addressing it.

22 June 2012: The third and final meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), Pre-Conference Informal Consultations Facilitated by the Host Country, and the UNCSD convened back-to-back in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 13-22 June 2012. During their ten days in Rio, government delegations concluded negotiations on the Rio outcome document, titled “The Future We Want.”

SPREP, IOC, CCCCC to Cooperate on Climate Change [viewed]

21 June 2012: The Commonwealth Secretariat has announced that three regional organizations, the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), have agreed to cooperate on steps to deal with the effects of climate change.
