Event: UN-REDD Country Needs Assessment Workshop [viewed]

The UN-REDD Programme will host an international workshop to solicit feedback on the preliminary findings of the Programme's joint country needs assessment with the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility. The World Bank assumes the functions of trustee, secretariat and Delivery Partner of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility.

UNESCO IOC Takes Stock of West African Coastal Adaptation Project [viewed]

13 June 2012: The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has convened a seminar to analyze the results of a project titled Adaptation to Climate Change in Coastal zones of West Africa (ACCC), discuss ways to fill gaps identified during the project, and agree on future action.

IPCC 35 Concludes Consideration of the IAC Review Recommendations [viewed]

IPCC9 June 2012: The 35th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) focused on the work resulting from the consideration of the recommendations from the InterAcademy Council (IAC) Review of the IPCC processes and procedures, namely those on: governance and management; procedures for the IPCC reports; and the communications strategy.

GEF Council Meeting Approves Largest Work Program to Date [viewed]

After the GEF Council unanimously decided to appoint Naoko Ishii (Japan) as the next GEF CEO/Chairperson, she greeted the Council and current CEO/Chairperson Monique Barbut.7 June 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council approved a Work Program of 84 projects and two programmatic approaches amounting to US$667.26 million in GEF project grants, and appointed Naoko Ishii (Japan) as the GEF's new Chairperson and CEO.

European Commission Launches European Resource Efficiency Platform [viewed]

5 June 2012: European Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik unveiled the European Resource Efficiency Platform (EREP), designed to facilitate achievement of the vision outlined in the European Commission's Roadmap to a Resource-Efficient Europe, which aims to decouple resource use and economic growth. The EREP is organized around three elements: greening the economy; setting objectives and measuring progress; and framework conditions for investment in resource efficiency.
