UNFCCC Publishes Note on Admission of Observers for COP 18 [viewed]

UNFCCC17 September 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a note on admission of organizations as observers (FCCC/CP/2012/2), which contains in an annex a list of six intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and 78 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) willing to be admitted as observers at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to be held in Doha, Qatar, from 26 November- 7 December 2012.

EU Mobility Week 2012 Launches Initiative to Accelerate Uptake of New Transport Technology [viewed]

CIFOR Announces Piloting of New REDD+ Safeguards System in Indonesia [viewed]

14 September 2012: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has reported that the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan will start piloting a new safeguard information system (SIS) for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+) in December 2012.

Event: WTO Public Forum 2012 [viewed]

The World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum 2012 will focus on the question: “Is multilateralism in crisis?” and will provide an opportunity for civil society participants to analyze the state of multilateralism and assess whether it is in crisis, considering both the Doha Round deadlock and WTO activities that work well. The Forum will address the following: formulating new approaches to multilateral trade opening in areas such as trade facilitation; addressing 21st-century issues and identifying areas in need of new regulations; and looking at the role of non-state actors in strengthening the multilateral trading system.

Canada and US Amend Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement [viewed]

7 September 2012: Lisa Jackson, Administrator, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Peter Kent, Minister of Environment, Canada, have signed an amendment to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, originally signed in 1972. The amendments strengthen US and Canadian cooperative action to address water quality threats and prevent harm.
