Event: World Weather Open Science Conference 2014 [viewed]

The World Weather Open Science Conference (WWOSC2014): The Weather: What's the Outlook, which is convening for the first time ever, will bring together the weather science and user communities under the overarching theme ‘Seamless Prediction of the Earth System: from minutes to months'. WWOSC2014 will examine the “frontiers of knowledge,” and outline new scientific goals and challenges. The Conference will feature special sessions on high-impact weather events, such as heatwaves, droughts, cold snaps and floods. The Conference's two streams – the Science Program and the User, Application and Social Science Program – will meet in joint plenary and special sessions. The Science Program will cover basic weather research, as well research needed to establish prediction systems and assess the impacts of weather and climate events. The User Program will consider challenges and opportunities associated with communicating and employing weather information, science and services that reap social and economic benefits. The Conference is being co-organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Council for Science, Environment Canada, and the National Research Council, Canada.

Event: Abu Dhabi Ascent [viewed]

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the Abu Dhabi Ascent, a high-level meeting to generate momentum for the 23 September Climate Summit being convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The two-day meeting will bring together ministers, as well as leaders from business, finance and civil society, to develop proposals for action and determine how their countries, businesses and organizations can increase their participation in initiatives that broaden and deepen partnerships, in order to deliver concrete action at the September Summit.

UNFCCC Releases ADP Summaries of Warsaw Workshops and Special Event [viewed]

UNFCCC6 February 2014: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) released three documents summarizing two workshops and one special event organized under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) during the Warsaw Climate Change Conference in November 2013.

AfDB Supports FIP REDD+ Project in Ghana [viewed]

CIF AFDB4 February 2014: The African Development Bank (AfDB) announced US$14.55 million funding for the Ghanaian project 'Engaging Local Communities in Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) /Enhancement of Carbon Stocks,' which benefits from the support from the Climate Investment Funds' (CIF) Forest Investment Program (FIP).

Event: South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference 2015 (SAIREC) [viewed]

The Government of South Africa together with the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) and the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) are hosting the South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference (SAIREC), to gather ministers, decision-makers, civil society, academia and the private sector to discuss experiences and strategies for accelerating the global deployment of renewable energy. The event is aimed particularly at giving the African renewable energy industry opportunities to showcase its work and gain insights from other participants. This event will build upon previous "IREC" conferences held in Abu Dhabi (2013), Delhi (2010), Washington D.C (2008), Beijing (2005) and Bonn (2004).

Workshop Discusses Social Inclusion in REDD+ in Argentina and Mesoamerica [viewed]

January 2014 Global Water Partnership Update [viewed]

GWP Global logotypeJanuary 2014: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) is engaging in a number of activities as the year begins and has reported on a number of meetings that were held at the end of 2013 at the regional and national levels. The GWP Central Asia and Caucasus (CACENA) and GWP West Africa (AO) Regional Council convened in late 2013 to approve activities for 2014, and national activities took place in Ukraine and Burkina Faso, among other actions.
