DESA, UNCRD Build Disaster Management Capacity in SIDS Municipalities [viewed]

United Nations13 November 2014: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), in collaboration with various partners, organized a capacity-building seminar for stakeholders to discuss vulnerabilities and challenges faced by SIDS municipalities regarding the increased frequency and intensity of natural disasters, the impacts of sea-level rise and other climate-related risks.

WMO Supports African Countries Forecast Hazardous Weather [viewed]

WMO21 November 2014: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has reported that a project aimed at helping meteorological services in developing countries to provide forecasts and warnings of hazardous weather is gaining momentum in Africa. The Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project (SWFDP) has improved lead times and reliable alerts for heavy rain, severe winds and high waves, thus assisting in the protection of people and property, and supporting such sectors as farming, fishing and transportation.

Event: 21st Meeting of the Task Group on Data and Scenario Support for Impact and Climate Analysis (TGICA-21) [viewed]

TGICA-21 will continue its work in facilitating the distribution and application of climate change-related data and scenarios. TGICA was established in 1996 by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and is as an advisory body composed of individuals nominated by governments and accredited organizations, selected to serve on the basis of their personal expertise. Members serve on a voluntary basis.

Event: Aplicación del Marco de Evaluación de Opciones en México: Hacia la Construcción de Mecanismos de Distribución de Beneficios [viewed]

This webinar, convened by the Program on Forests (PROFOR) and Mexico's National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), will provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about the benefit sharing mechanisms developed for Mexico's REDD+ programme. The event will introduce the evaluation of the institutional, legal and financial setting for benefit sharing as well as the resulting suggestions for a best practice benefit sharing mechanism. L20 Urges G20 to Address Climate Change, Green Growth, Inequalities [viewed]
