December 2012: The World Bank has launched an initiative called “Striking Poverty,” an online space designed to empower a global community of innovators to end poverty through open discussion and debate. Currently, the platform features a discussion on carbon and climate change, with a focus on innovations in low-emissions development for poverty alleviation and sustainable development.
30 November 2012: The Adaptation Fund and the UN Foundation have announced a partnership to allow donations from the private sector and individuals for the Adaptation Fund. The partnership was announced at a side event held on the margins of the Doha Climate Change Conference.
5 December 2012: The Gulf Coordination Council (GCC) organized two panels on "Renewable Energy in GCC Countries" in the context of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Doha, Qatar, to discuss various renewable energy initiatives and technologies within the GCC region.
4 December 2012: The Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of the World Bank has released a new report, titled "Planning for a Low Carbon Future: Lessons Learned from Seven Country Studies," which presents results from cases studies on strategies to develop long-term frameworks for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that contribute to economic growth.
2 December 2012: In partnership with the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), Canada's International Development Research Center (IDRC) hosted a parallel event to the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC that introduced the new Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA).
29 November 2012: The World Bank has provided an update of a Bank-supported project in Colombia that assists indigenous communities in the Putumayo Department plan for adaptation to climate change. The project won a small grant in 2009 during the Bank's annual "Development Marketplace" competition.
28 November 2012: The Second Committee (Economic and Financial) of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) has approved draft resolution (A/C.2/67/L.43) on “Protection of Global Climate for Present and Future Generations of Humankind.” The draft was approved in New York, US, on 28 November 2012.
3 December 2012: Doha Global Business Day took place in Doha, Qatar, on 3 December 2012, on the sidelines of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC. The event focused on the theme “Diversifying Actions for Climate Impact,” and was organized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
3 December 2012: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has granted the first Land For Life Award to civil society organizations from Haiti, Turkey and Uganda for their innovative work combating land degradation. UNCCD recognized the three winners at a Recognition Gala event, which included ministers from their respective countries, at the UN Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar.
1 December 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a booklet, titled "Seeds of Knowledge," which suggests that grassroots, community-involved projects around the world are already playing an essential role in the response to climate change, and that these projects can guide policies.
