26 December 2012: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has reported that its Jakarta office and the FOCIL Foundation organized a training of trainers for teachers and students from Wangi-wangi island, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, to kick-start the implementation of Sandwatch activities on the island.
21 December 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released the first Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Turkmenistan, which highlights several environmental issues as particular challenges, including: salinization of irrigated lands; water management; desertification; and biodiversity loss.
20 December 2012: The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) launched the Third Green Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Application Challenge, in collaboration with Telefónica, in Geneva, Switzerland. The Challenge aims to promote innovation and "out of the box" thinking on smart, sustainable cities and environmental sustainability in urban areas.
December 2012: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released two new products on climate change that document its work across the adaptation realm, as well as an animation of climate change impacts in mountain environments.
December 2012: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) December 2012 edition of NewsFlow addresses issues ranging from water and climate change, transboundary water management, integrated water resources management (IWRM), gender mainstreaming and food security.
18 December 2012: With support from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), the Connect4climate (C4C) campaign coalition with a strong focus on Africa youth and the use of social media has been launched in Times Square, NY, through a 25-second climate music video resulting from a collaboration between Eminem and the Kenyan hip hop group TS1.
13 December 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for North America (RONA) organized the North American Major Groups and Stakeholders (MGS) Consultation, in preparation for the 14th UNEP Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) and the 27th Session of the UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF).
17 December 2012: The UN Collaborative Programme on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (UN-REDD) national programme in Viet Nam has completed its first phase of implementation.
14 December 2012: The "Second Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Tajikistan" conducted by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) highlights that waste management and clean water and sanitation remain challenges for this country. UNECE EPRs cover ten elements including: environmental policymaking, planning and implementation; financing of environmental policies; waste and water management; biodiversity conservation; and integration of environmental issues into energy and health policies.
11 December 2012: The Organization of American States (OAS) has announced the 14 recipients of small grants under the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) "Sustainable Communities in Central America and the Caribbean" project.
