Senior Arctic Officials Advance Arctic Council Agenda [viewed]

Arctic Council23 October 2015: The Senior Arctic Official's meeting, which convened from 20-22 October 2015, in Anchorage, Alaska, brought together senior representatives from the eight Arctic States and the Permanent Participants (six organizations representing Arctic Indigenous peoples) to advance the work of the Arctic Council. The meeting was also the Council's first plenary meeting under US Chairmanship (2015-2017).

Adaptation Fund Proposes Gender Policy, Invites Comments [viewed]

Adaptation Fund22 October 2015: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) launched a call for public comments on the Fund's proposed new gender policy. Building on the human rights based-approach of the Fund's Environmental and Social Policy, the gender policy proposal aims to ensure that projects ensure full and equitable participation of women and men in project decisions, and receive comparable social and economic benefits.

US, Pakistan Form Clean Energy Partnership [viewed]

Workshop Stresses EbA as Basis for Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

US Companies Join 'Act on Climate' Pledge [viewed]

USA Flag19 October 2015: The US announced new commitments from companies that are joining the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, bringing the total number of US companies that have signed onto the pledge to 81. Together, these companies have operations in all 50 US states, employ over nine million people, represent more than US$3 trillion in annual revenue, and have a combined market capitalization of over US$5 trillion.

World Wide Views Alliance Reports on Citizen Consultations [viewed]

world_wide-views20 October 2015: The World Wide Views (WWViews) Alliance has launched the findings of a global citizen consultation on climate change and energy, which sought to determine “how far citizens around the world are willing to go” in the areas of climate action and energy transitions. The consultation, taking place on 6 June 2015, involved approximately 10,000 people in 76 countries.

GEF Council Discusses Work Program, STAP Report [viewed]

GEF21 October 2015: The 49th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council opened in Washington DC, US, to consider, among other things, a Work Program to provide financing for 17 new projects focusing mainly on climate change and sustainable ecosystem management in the Amazon. In anticipation of the forthcoming Paris Climate Change Conference, the Work Program emphasizes climate mitigation, as well as an integrated, multi-country program for the Amazon.

IRENA Guide Supports Transition to ‘Age of Renewable Power' [viewed]

IRENA8 October 2015: A report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) proposes a framework for the development of national roadmaps for power sector transformations. It identifies 20 measures to integrate variable renewable energy sources into electricity grids and presents lessons from countries already pursuing a power system transformation to renewable energy.

European Cities Unite on Climate and Energy [viewed]

convenant_mayors15 October 2015: The Covenant of Mayors, a movement of European cities committed to energy efficiency and renewable energy, and its initiative 'Mayors Adapt,' composed of cities committed to preparing for the impacts of climate change, have joined forces in the fight against climate change. A ceremony launching the 'New Integrated Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy' took place at the European Parliament in the lead up to the Paris Climate Change Conference scheduled to take place in November-December 2015.

OECD, IEA Encourage Increased Climate Action by Non-State Actors [viewed]

oecd.iea15 October 2015: Cognizant that ambitious climate action will require efforts by a range of actors, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have published a report focusing on three types of non-State stakeholders, namely sub-national governments, the private sector and financial institutions, and their involvement in climate action. The report, titled 'Encouraging Increased Climate Action by Non-Party Stakeholders,' examines how the 2015 climate agreement, expected to be adopted in Paris in December 2015, could encourage increased mitigation actions by non-party stakeholders and the financing of such actions.
