Marshall Islands Prepare National Climate Change Framework Policy [viewed]

23 November 2010: The Marshall Islands are preparing a national climate change framework policy (NCCFP) to provide a blueprint to build resilience to climate change, in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) Climate Change Programme, the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change project of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Pacific Adaptation Strategies Assistance Programme and the Pacific Islands Applied Geosciences Commission.

Event: UNCCD Technical Workshop on Impact Indicator Refinement [viewed]

The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat, under the guidance of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST) Bureau, is currently undertaking a scientific peer review of the relevance, accuracy and cost-effectiveness of the impact indicators identified at the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 9). It is in this context that this technical workshop will be convened. The workshop will target scientists, experts, managers and practitioners that have experience in the development and implementation of impact indicators, particularly for monitoring and assessment of desertification and land degradation. Meeting participants are expected to contribute to the refinement of the UNCCD set of impact indicators provisionally accepted at COP 9 and, ultimately, to the establishment of a scientifically rigorous and credible assessment of the impact of desertification and land degradation at the national, regional and global levels.

UNDP Publishes Report on Tackling Corruption Risks in Climate Change [viewed]

17 November 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released a report titled "Staying on Track: Tackling Corruption Risks in Climate Change," which focuses on corruption risks involved with adaptation and REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable use of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks).

EIB Supports Climate-resilient Water Projects in Samoa [viewed]

17 November 2010: The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide technical support for sustainable and climate-resilient water projects in Samoa. EIB support will target the rehabilitation and upgrade of independent water schemes in Samoa under a EUR 250,000 technical assistance programme, which will also ensure community participation and improve drinking water quality and climate resilience.
