UNFCCC Posts Documents to REDD-Web Platform [viewed]

13feb09-cover0-tn11 February 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has added new documents to its information-sharing web platform related to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD), which was created in response to UNFCCC Decision 2/CP.13 (Reducing emissions from deforestation in developing countries: approaches to stimulate action). The new documents include information on remote sensing submitted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Global Forest Resources assessment (FRA 2010).

WMO to Release New Evidence on Change in Polar Regions [viewed]

6 February 2009: A series of events marking the end of the International Polar Year (IPY) will take place on 24-25 February 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland. The IPY is a large scientific programme organized through the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic, from March 2007 to March 2009.

UNCCD Announces Conference to Discuss Monitoring and Assessment of Desertification and Land Degradation [viewed]

6 February 2009: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has released information concerning the scientific conference to be held in conjunction with the next meeting of its Committee on Science and Technology. The conference will consider “Bio-physical and socio-economic monitoring and assessment of desertification and land degradation, to support decision-making in land and water management.”

WMO to Co-organize Summer School on the Arctic and Climate Change [viewed]

February 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) will support the international summer school “Observing the Arctic: a window to climate change,” which is to take place from 17 June-4 July 2009, in Svalbard, Norway.
