IEA Ministerial Meeting Discusses Partnerships for Energy Challenges [viewed]

© IEA15 October 2009: The International Energy Agency (IEA) celebrated its 35th anniversary and considered the theme “Responding to Energy Challenges in Partnership” during its two-day Ministerial meeting in Paris, France, from 14-15 October 2009. The meeting gathered energy ministers from the 28 IEA member countries to share views on key energy and environment challenges. In addition, IEA partner countries China, India and Russia participated for the first time together and guest speakers Henry Kissinger and Etienne Davignon - two key founders of the IEA - and Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), helped mark the anniversary milestone.

Guest Article #23: Climate information and services for decision-making [viewed]

Convened in Geneva from 31 August to 4 September 2009 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its international partners, the World Climate Conference-3 (WCC-3) has initiated the process to establish a Global Framework for Climate Services, to ensure that climate information and predictions are made available to decision-makers and to all sectors enduring the increasing impacts of climate variability and change. This historic decision was unanimously adopted at the opening of the WCC-3 High-level Segment, which followed three days of intense deliberations by multidisciplinary international experts. Present on the occasion were the Presidents and Heads of State of 12 countries and close to 80 Ministers, as well as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and 12 Executive Heads of UN Agencies and Programmes.

Event: UNCCD CRIC 9 and CST S-2 [viewed]

The ninth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 9) and the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-2) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) are expected to take place from 16-25 February 2011. CST S-2 will convene from 16-18 February, and will be followed by CRIC 9 from 21-25 February. In addition, the COP 9 Bureau will meet from 14-15 February, and regional consultations preparatory to CRIC 9 will convene back-to-back with the CST session.

UNEP, UNESCO and FAO Collaborate on Blue Carbon Report Highlighting the Importance of Healthy Oceans [viewed]
