Event: CBD Expert Meeting on Impacts of Ocean Acidification on Marine and Coastal Biodiversity [viewed]

The CBD Expert Meeting to Develop a Series of Joint Expert Review Processes to Monitor and Assess the Impacts of Ocean Acidification on Marine and Coastal Biodiversity aims to: identify gaps and barriers in existing monitoring and scientific assessment of those impacts, in terms of their linkages to relevant global policy processes; develop options for addressing identified gaps and barriers, including a proposal for the development of a series of joint expert review processes; and identify necessary collaboration activities to implement possible options for addressing identified gaps and barriers.

UNFCCC Publishes Fifth National Communication Review Reports for Italy and Poland [viewed]

UNFCCC5 August 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the reports of the in-depth review of the fifth national communications (NC5) of Italy (FCCC/IDR.5/ITA) and Poland (CC/ERT/2011/12). The reviews were conducted by teams of experts nominated from the UNFCCC roster of experts.

Event: WMO Regional Association VI Conference on Social and Economic Benefits of Weather, Climate and Water Services [viewed]

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is organizing this meeting in conjunction with MeteoSwiss and the Government of Switzerland. The meeting aims to promote and stimulate socio-economic assessments and studies among the Regional Association (RA) Members. It will provide a forum for discussing the outcomes of recent studies carried out by different Members and reviewing related methodologies. It is expected that the Conference will provide material for the development of regional guidelines on the subject with an outline of good practices, in order to build the capacity of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in the region for conducting socio-economic analyses and studies.

Event: 10th Scientific Conference on Weather Modification [viewed]

This Conference is being organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and will consider weather modification research and the study of cloud and precipitation processes, and weather modification and the physical and socio-economic environment. Weather modification research topics will focus on: observational and laboratory studies; modelling studies; developments in seeding material and methods of delivery; and data analysis and statistical methods as applied to current and previous experiments and projects. Weather modification and the physical and socio-economic environment will address: environmental issues, user requirements and cost-benefit studies; inadvertent weather modification; and climate change and geo-engineering. The presentations may report on both scientific results as well as on operational experience in weather modification supported with scientific studies/analyses.
