7 August 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the submission on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) filed by Indonesia and Australia to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) and Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA).
July 2009: The World Bank has published a policy research working paper titled “Forecasting Local Climate for Policy Analysis – A Pilot Application for Ethiopia.”
6 August 2009: The 40th Pacific Islands Forum convened in Cairns, Australia, from 5-6 August 2009, and concluded with a call by Pacific leaders to action on climate change.
5 August 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) organized a meeting of the network on Sustainable Energy, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management to discuss national and sectoral climate change strategies.
17 July 2009: The Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (or Aarhus Convention), is set to enter into force on 8 October 2009, following France's ratification, which was deposited with the UN Secretary-General on 10 July 2009.
24 July 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released the June edition of its newsletter titled “World Climate News,” which focuses on a Global Framework for Climate Services, the major expected outcome of the third World Climate Conference (WCC-3). WMP is organizing WCC-3, which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 31 August-4 September 2009.
20 July 2009: During a press conference held at UN Headquarters in New York, US, Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said he was encouraged by the climate pledges made by G8 leaders at their recent meeting in L'Aquila, Italy, but expressed his concern that their general commitments fell short of what was required by science.
