December 2009: Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has issued a statement regarding news reports on the hacking of email communications between scientists who have been involved as authors in IPCC assessments.
4 December 2009: The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on 4 December 2009, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and committed 8 million Norwegian Kroner (about US$1 million) to UNECA's African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC).
4 December 2009: Spain has become the third donor to the UN-REDD Programme, following the Governments of Norway and Denmark, by pledging €15 million to the trust fund. Yemi Katerere, Head of UN-REDD, commented that "there is a growing interest in the UN-REDD Programme by developing and developed countries and a clear recognition that reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) cannot happen without this partnership.
4 December 2009: The Second Committee (Economic and Financial) of the UN General Assembly has approved 11 draft resolutions, including a text on the protection of global climate for present and future generations of humankind.
3 December 2009: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has released the third issue of its bi-monthly newsletter, UNCCD News.
December 2009: The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report titled "Protecting health from climate change: global research priorities," whichpresents the conclusions from a global consultation seeking to improve the evidence base for policies to protect health from climate change.
2 December 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released the December issue of its newsletter MeteoWorld, which provides an overview of recent WMO activities, including work on a Global Framework for Climate Services.
November 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) and its Regional Activity Centres have released the first State of the Environment and Development report covering the Mediterranean region, which tackles key environmental issues, including climate change.
30 November 2009: The staff of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) took part in a training workshop on climate change, delivered by the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the UNFCCC Secretariat, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) from 17-20 November 2009.
26 November 2009: The Government of Sweden has signed an agreement with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), committing 60 million Swedish Kronor to support the UNECA's African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC).
