SPC Supports Development of Vanuatu's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy [viewed]

26 July 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has reported that the SPC-GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) Coping with Climate Change in the Pacific Islands Region Programme is providing support to the Government of Vanuatu in finalizing the country's first National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (NCCAS).

Event: CoastGIS 2011 [viewed]

CoastGIS 2011 will be hosted in Oostende, Belgium, by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchage (IODE) Project Office. This conference will cover the following thematic areas: impact of climate change on the coast, coastal communities and marine resources; environmental conservation in the coastal zone; pollution monitoring and control; sustainable use of coastal resources; integrating coastal and river basin catchment data; disaster monitoring and mitigation at the coast; informing and involving the public in coastal decision making; planning for sustainable coastal tourism; coastal planning and management for small islands; and protecting coastal heritage.

Event: Global Soil Partnership for Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Launch [viewed]

On the basis of the recommendation of FAO's High-Level External Committee (HLEC) on the Millennium Development Goals to the Director-General (13-14 October 2009) and the discussions and conclusions from the 22nd Committee on Agriculture (COAG), which took place from 16-19 June 2010, preparatory activities have been initiated to develop a vision statement, strategy and action plan towards the establishment of a Global Soil Partnership (GSP) for Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation. The GSP is expected to develop synergies and cost savings among the various existing networks and programmes.

Event: Integrated Climate Impact Assessment Tool for Urban Policy Makers: Expert Consultations [viewed]

This invitation-only event will gather policy makers and experts from Asia and around the world to review the features of available tools for urban policy makers to assess the complex nature of impact and risk assessment for prioritizing projects based on costs and benefits. Specific focus will be given to the water, energy and transport sectors and the application of the Business Case Methodology. ECOSOC Establishes Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management [viewed]

Event: The Ocean Carbon Cycle at a Time of Change: Synthesis and Vulnerabilities [viewed]

This meeting will provide inputs the further development of the ocean carbon observing systems and to the next (fifth) assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It will also form the basis of a number of planned synthesis papers. The meeting will include plenary talks, poster sessions and meetings of individual working groups.
