Norway will host an Antarctic Treaty Meeting of Experts (ATME) on Climate Change and Implications for Antarctic Management and Governance. Agenda items include: key scientific aspects of climate change; key consequences of such change to the Antarctic marine and terrestrial environment; implications of such consequences to management of Antarctic activities; the need for monitoring, scenario planning and risk assessment; and outcomes of the Copenhagen negotiations relevant for the Antarctic.

The workshop will enable around 100 representatives from parties, relevant organizations, regional centers and networks, communities, and experts, to share climate data and information available in the public domain, exchange views on climate data and information needs within the context of adaptation planning, and possible roles of regional centers and other knowledge intermediaries in improving the provision, dissemination and application of climate data and information.

1 February 2010: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued its first newsletter. The January issue begins with a message from IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri, in which he reflects on the Panel's work in January related to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Chair Pachauri also notes recent media developments around the IPCC, but expresses belief "that the truth will prevail and the mal-intent of those who are behind the falsehoods that are being produced in the media would be exposed."
