January 2010: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) convened an expert meeting on Assessing and Combining Multi-Model Climate Projections from 25-27 January 2010, in Boulder, US. The meeting was held under the auspices of IPCC Working Groups (WGs) I (Physical Science Basis and Impacts) and II (Adaptation and Vulnerability).
2 February 2010: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has released a statement on its principles and procedures.
28 January 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published reports submitted in 2009 of the individual reviews of the annual submissions of: the Russian Federation (FCCC/ARR/2009/RUS); Norway (FCCC/ARR/2009/NOR); Switzerland (FCCC/ARR/2009/CHE); Lithuania (FCCC/ARR/2009/LTU); and Iceland (FCCC/ARR/2009/ISL).
This meeting is co-sponsored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group (WG) II, which deals with climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability, and the US National Research Council. Participants will examine socioeconomic scenarios for climate change impact and response assessments in support of the fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the IPCC.
Norway will host an Antarctic Treaty Meeting of Experts (ATME) on Climate Change and Implications for Antarctic Management and Governance. Agenda items include: key scientific aspects of climate change; key consequences of such change to the Antarctic marine and terrestrial environment; implications of such consequences to management of Antarctic activities; the need for monitoring, scenario planning and risk assessment; and outcomes of the Copenhagen negotiations relevant for the Antarctic.
The workshop will enable around 100 representatives from parties, relevant organizations, regional centers and networks, communities, and experts, to share climate data and information available in the public domain, exchange views on climate data and information needs within the context of adaptation planning, and possible roles of regional centers and other knowledge intermediaries in improving the provision, dissemination and application of climate data and information.
1 February 2010: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will carry out a comprehensive study on the economics of climate change in China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Mongolia.
29 January 2010: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will support, through its Climate Change Fund, projects in two Chinese provinces, with one project evaluating the potential to reduce carbon emissions and the other establishing a large scale concentrated solar thermal plant.
1 February 2010: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued its first newsletter. The January issue begins with a message from IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri, in which he reflects on the Panel's work in January related to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Chair Pachauri also notes recent media developments around the IPCC, but expresses belief "that the truth will prevail and the mal-intent of those who are behind the falsehoods that are being produced in the media would be exposed."
29 January 2010: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) convened, in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the 42nd session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee.
