Central Asian Experts Make Recommendations for Post-2015 DRR Agreement [viewed]

UNISDR2 April 2014: Participants at the Central Asia Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) underlined that "DRR is development," and must be incorporated into the post-2015 development agenda and the anticipated 2015 climate change agreement. The gathering, among other Regional Platforms convening around the world, aimed to assess implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) and determine regional submissions for the Post-2015 agreement on DRR to be adopted at the Third UN World Conference on DRR in 2015.

EU-US Energy Council Urges Adopting New Climate Agreement in 2015 [viewed]

Event: Clean Energy Ministerial 5 (CEM5) [viewed]

The Republic of Korea is hosting the fifth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM5), which will gather energy ministers and other high-level delegates from over 20 of the world's largest economies to identify avenues to accelerate the transition to a global clean energy economy. CEM5 will focus specifically on identifying smart policies, programmes, and strategies to improve energy efficiency, clean energy deployment, and energy access expansion. It is also anticipated that governments will announce specific new commitments to advance these goals at the meeting. Participants include the 23 CEM government ministers and delegates, official observer organisations and other invited stakeholders.

UNDP Calls for Inputs on Draft Social and Environmental Standards [viewed]

UNDP3 March 2014: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has announced an invitation to provide comments on its draft Social and Environmental Standards (SESs), which underpin UNDP's commitment to mainstreaming social and environmental sustainability in its programmes and projects. The Standards aim to: strengthen UNDP's social and environmental outcomes; minimize and manage adverse impacts when avoidance is not possible; and strengthen capacities for managing social and environmental risks.

World Bank Report Proposes Priorities for Sustainable Urbanization [viewed]

WorldFish, IWMI Release Research on Agricultural Water Use and Adaptation in Africa [viewed]

WorldFishMarch 2014: Working with national partners in Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia, WorldFish, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the University of Osnabruck have released the results of an examination of climate change adaptation in food production in the Chinyanja Triangle. After project completion at the end of 2013, researchers have presented their results to stakeholders in the region, recommending improved water allocation and management strategies.

The 2014 African Clean Energy Summit (ACES) will bring together decision makers, policymakers, industry leaders, investors, experts and media under the theme of Sustainable Energy for All. Participants from around the world are invited to explore the challenges and opportunities for renewable energy through an international exhibition, technical sessions, business forums and other concurrent activities. The event will also inaugurate the Africa Women Roundtable on Clean Energy and Energy Poverty and the Africa Children and Youth Roundtable on Clean Energy and Green Lifestyle. The African Union Commission (AUC) and Government of Nigeria are organizing the Summit, with support from various other partners.
