WBG/IMF Annual Meetings Address Climate Change, SDGs [viewed]

wbg.imf11 October 2015: The 2015 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which met from 9-11 October 2015 in Lima, Peru, were the first to be held in Latin America since 1967. The meetings consisted of plenary sessions, panel discussions and seminars, which addressed, inter alia, inequality, the economic slowdown, renewable energy, climate change, and the Bank's twin goals of ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity. They brought together government ministers, development experts, CEOs and celebrities.

NATO: Climate Change Poses Significant Threat Multipliers [viewed]

NATO12 October 2015: The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has stated that climate change poses “significant threat multipliers that will shape the security environment in areas of concern to the Alliance.” The statement is included in a resolution adopted by NATO's Parliamentary Assembly, which is urging the 28 NATO members to support a legally binding agreement at the Paris Climate Change Conference in November-December.The resolution was adopted on 12 October 2015, during the Parliamentary Assembly's annual meeting in Stavanger, Norway, where lawmakers called on NATO to improve strategic awareness of the security threats posed by climate change.

REN21, UNIDO Publish Report on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Southern Africa [viewed]

REN21 - SADC - UNIDO7 October 2015: The Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have published a report that illustrates the achievements of cooperation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in promoting the market-based uptake of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and services. The report, titled the ‘SADC Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Status Report,' was launched at a side event during the South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference (SAIREC) 2015, which convened from 4-7 October 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa.

IRENA REmap 2030 for Africa Finds High Growth Potential for Renewables [viewed]

IRENA5 October 2015: African countries, on average, could meet 22% of their energy needs with renewable energy by 2030, according to a study by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The report is part of IRENA's global REmap 2030 initiative, which sets a roadmap to doubling the share of renewables in the global energy mix by 2030.
