15 January 2013: The winners of the Zayed Future Energy Prize were announced on 15 January 2013 at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2013.
14 January 2013: The third session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly convened on 13-14 January in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to discuss IRENA's work programme and budget for 2013, medium-term strategy, progress on programmatic activities, and implementation of policies on ethics, conflicts of interest, and the secondment of personnel.
14 January 2013: At the third session of the IRENA Assembly, which took place from 13-14 January 2013, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), IRENA released new publications on the future of renewable energy in Africa and the increasing cost-competitiveness of renewable energy, and launched a global roadmap to doubling the share of renewable energy to 30% by the year 2030.
14 January 2013: UN Human Settlements Programme's (UN-HABITAT) Executive Director Joan Clos has announced the launch of a Global Consultation on Wastewater Management and Water Quality for the Post-2015 Agenda. The Consultation aims to build consensus around key water challenges related to the post-2015 development agenda.
11 January 2013: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved its new Energy Sector Policy, providing a framework within which to promote access to modern, reliable and affordable access to energy for regional member countries (RMCs), as well as ensure that their energy sectors develop in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable manner. It is expected that the policy will also aid in addressing climate change and other environmental challenges.
9 January 2012: The Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of the World Bank has published a report, titled "Commercial Woodfuel Production: Experience from Three Locally Controlled Wood Production Models," as part of its Knowledge Series.
January 2013: The Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published the third review of Mexico's environmental performance, including on progress toward a green, low-carbon economy. The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) presents 29 recommendations for achieving the "right mix of policies" to meet Mexico's environmental policy objectives.
19 December 2012: The Clean Energy Ministerial's (CEM) Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) has announced the laureates of the Lighting Global Outstanding Product Awards, which recognizes sustainable off-grid solar lighting products for people without access to electricity in developing countries.
November 2012: The UN Division for Sustainable Development (DESA) has released the first issue of its UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Working Paper series, titled “Development cooperation in light of sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Preliminary exploration of the issues.”
