26 November 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO has published a policy brief calling for governments to build resilience into food systems by implementing National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs) alongside collaboration with international partners.
November 2009: The European Commission (EC) has released a report of a multi-sectoral assessment of climate change impacts in Europe for 2011-2040 and 2071-2100.
23 November 2009: Speaking at the opening of the 26th session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), IMO Secretary-General Efthimios E. Mitropoulos reviewed the work of the organization in the previous biennium, highlighting progress on a package of technical and operational measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping.
18 November 2009: On the occasion of the expert workshop on scientific and technical aspects relevant to environmental impact assessment in marine areas beyond national jurisdiction, held from 18-20 November 2009, in Manila, the Philippines, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), highlighted that recent global marine environmental assessments have observed a serious deterioration of the marine environment, further exacerbated by the effects of climate change.
The fifth meeting of the parties to the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), held on 10-12 November 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland, adopted the Guide to Implementing the Convention and Guidance on Water and Adaptation to Climate Change, among other outcomes.
15 November 2009: Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) convened for their 17th meeting, titled “Sustaining Growth, Connecting the Region,” in Singapore on 14-15 November 2009, and discussed climate change, among other issues.
13 November 2009: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands has announced that its Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) has compiled a briefing note based on recent decisions adopted by Ramsar contracting parties and on recent information and recommendations provided by the STRP in relation to wetlands and climate change.
6 November 2009: The Danone-IUCN-Ramsar partnership hosted a three-day expert workshop on “Achieving carbon offsets through mangroves and other wetlands,” from 9-11 November 2009, in Gland, Switzerland.
November 2009: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, together with the Danone Groupe and IUCN, has called for “wet carbon” project proposals, or projects with wetland, community and climate impacts.
30 October 2009: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will execute a UN-backed project aimed at reversing coastal erosion in five West African countries.
