31 March 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has announced that the Bureau of the Convention's Committee on Science and Technology (CST) has selected Global Risk Forum, Davos, Switzerland (GRF Davos) as the lead institution to organize the 2nd UNCCD Scientific Conference.

LDC Eminent Persons Group Releases Report [viewed]

29 March 2011: The UN Secretary-General's Eminent Persons Group on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) has released its report, titled “Compact for Inclusive Growth and Prosperity.” The report finds that the structural limitations of LDCs must be addressed in order to close the gap between LDCs and the rest of the world, and outlines objectives and targets for a new Programme of Action (PoA), including on small island developing States (SIDS) and climate change.

Event: Land Day 4 [viewed]

This event will be the fourth such event organized by the UNCCD Secretariat, and will take place in parallel to the meetings of the UNFCCC subsidiary body meetings to provide a forum for UNFCCC and UNCCD decision-makers to exchange ideas. Panel Session 1 will focus on climate financing and its long-term impacts on climate adaptation and mitigation at the local level. Panel Session 2 will examine the implication of the REDD+ and Cancun agreements for the drylands. Panel Session 3 will examine green growth and green economy.
