13 December 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Environment Agency have released theEuropean Atlas of Environmental Change and Climate Communities, which depicts through satellite imagery the impact of climate change in Europe.
11 December 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Center for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), has released a study on climate-induced extreme droughts and floods risks in the Himalayas.
8 December 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), jointly with the US National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) at the University of Nebraska, is organizing the Inter-Regional Workshop on Indices and Early Warning Systems for Drought from 8-11 December 2009, in Lincoln, Nebraska, US.
3 December 2009: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has released the third issue of its bi-monthly newsletter, UNCCD News.
The GEF Council Meeting will develop, adopt and evaluate GEF programmes. Council members representing 32 constituencies (16 from developing countries, 14 from developed countries, and two from countries with transitional economies) will be represented. An NGO Consultation will be held on the first day.
The dates for the 39th GEF Council meeting were selected at the end of the November 2009 meeting of the GEF Council (http://thegef.org/uploadedfiles/C.36.%20Joint%20Summary.final.pdf). November 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) and its Regional Activity Centres have released the first State of the Environment and Development report covering the Mediterranean region, which tackles key environmental issues, including climate change.
26 November 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO has published a policy brief calling for governments to build resilience into food systems by implementing National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs) alongside collaboration with international partners.
20 November 2009: The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has published a water policy brief on "Flexible Water Storage Options and Adaptation to Climate Change."
20 November 2009: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has published a research brief based on research in Ethiopia on the implications of soil and water conservation on agricultural production risk.
