FAO, IDB Support Analysis on Climate Change and Agriculture in Jamaica [viewed]

Event: Nutrition and Sustainability: A practical approach to integrating climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, nutrition and health agendas [viewed]

Bioversity International is co-organizing a seminar to explore practical approaches and solutions to nutrition and sustainability in Rome, Italy, together with the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the Governments of Malawi and Flanders. The seminar, 'Nutrition and Sustainability: A practical approach to integrating climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, nutrition and health agendas,' will be held at FAO headquarters. The seminar will bring together some 300 scientists, policymakers, experts, students and practitioners to develop responses to countries' requests about "why?" and "how?" to link nutrition and sustainability, and to discuss the tradeoffs. Virtual participation is also welcome by contacting the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition Secretariat.

GEF Council Approves US$259.84 Million Work Program [viewed]

45th-meeting-of-the-GEF-Council7 November 2013: The 45th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council considered, inter alia: the progress report on the pilot accreditation of GEF Project Agencies; the mid-term evaluation of the System for Transparent Allocation of Resources (STAR); the mid-term evaluation of the National Portfolio Formulation Exercise (NPFE); an update on the GEF-6 replenishment; a review of GEF Agencies on their application of environmental and social safeguards and gender mainstreaming; and an update on the development of the GEF 2020 strategy. The GEF Council also approved a Work Program amounting to US$259.84 million.

UNEP Report: Closing the Emissions Gap Increasingly Unlikely [viewed]

UNEP5 November 2013: Ahead of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 19), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released the '2013 Emissions Gap Report,' which involved 44 scientific groups in 17 countries. The emissions gap in 2020 is the difference between emission levels in 2020 consistent with meeting climate targets, and levels expected in that year if country pledges and commitments are met.
