Niger Basin Countries Adopt Climate Resilience Investment Plan [viewed]

wb_bassinniger27 October 2015: The countries of the Niger Basin have jointly developed a Climate Resilience Investment Plan (CRIP) that outlines 246 priority actions for building climate resilience. The nine member States of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA), Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger and Nigeria, collaborated on the Plan and pledged to advocate for technical and financial support to implement its priority actions.

RRI-logo29 October 2015: Focusing on the theme 'Status of Community Land Rights and the Role of Climate Finance on the Eve of the Paris Agreement,' the Rights and Resources Initiative's (RRI) 18th Dialogue on Forests, Governance and Climate Change explored the implications of key 2015 developments in climate change policy and financing for the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities. It highlighted that the challenge is how to ensure strong links between climate financing mechanisms and efforts to secure rights to lands, territories and resources.

Event: CGIAR Seminar: How Can Agriculture Help Achieve the 2-Degree Target? [viewed]

Co-organized by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and the World Bank, this seminar will address the efforts necessary to achieve a net contribution to emissions reductions from the agricultural sector. GEF Council Reappoints CEO Naoko Ishii for Second Term [viewed]

naoko_ishii23 October 2015: The 49th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council approved a work program amounting to US$254.99 million. The work program comprises 17 project concepts and two programmatic approaches, focusing mainly on climate change and sustainable ecosystem management in the Amazon. In addition, GEF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairperson Naoko Ishii was appointed for a second four-year term.

UNCCD COP 12 Discusses SDG Target on Land Degradation Neutrality, DLDD Links with Climate Change [viewed]

cop12unccd23 October 2015: The 12th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 12) adopted 35 decisions following deliberations on agenda items related to desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD), including how to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals' (SDG) target to achieve land degradation neutrality (LDN) and how to align the UNCCD's goals and Parties' action programmes with the Goals. Parties also considered messages for the Paris Climate Change Conference, which will take place from 30 November-11 December 2015.

GEF Council Approves Regional Programme to Protect Amazon [viewed]

GEF21 October 2015: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council has approved a “first-of-its-kind” multi-million dollar project to help protect over 80% of the Amazon and combat climate change. GEF says it will commit US$113 million for the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Program, a regional programme covering Brazil, Colombia and Peru, which is expected to leverage US$682 million in additional financing over five years.

GEF21 October 2015: The 49th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council opened in Washington DC, US, to consider, among other things, a Work Program to provide financing for 17 new projects focusing mainly on climate change and sustainable ecosystem management in the Amazon. In anticipation of the forthcoming Paris Climate Change Conference, the Work Program emphasizes climate mitigation, as well as an integrated, multi-country program for the Amazon.
