Event: Open-Ended Meeting of the CPR to UNEA [viewed]

The Open-Ended Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) will consider policy matters and prepare draft decisions for the consideration of the UNEA when it meets in June 2014. The meeting will discuss, inter alia: new mechanisms to promote transparency and civil society engagement; critical gaps and recommendations on the science-policy interface;and recommendations to the Secretary-General on enhancing UNEP's role in key UN coordination bodies. The CPR will also discuss implementation of past UNEP Governing Council decisions, including a policy on access to information; international water quality guidelines for ecosystems; and outcomes of a consultative process on enhancing coordination within the chemicals and wastes cluster. The CPR is the subsidiary inter-session body of UNEP's governing body.

GLOBE Summit Launches Partnership for Climate Legislation [viewed]

globe28 February 2014: The 2nd GLOBE Climate Legislation Summit, which brought together legislators from over 50 countries, saw the launch of the fourth edition of the GLOBE Climate Legislation Study and of the Partnership for Climate Legislation. Legislators also presented case studies of their national policies, and discussed how national legislation can contribute to a new international climate agreement.

OWG Co-Chairs Compile 19 'Focus Areas' [viewed]

owg21 February 2014: The Co-Chairs of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have assembled a list of 19 'Focus Areas' for consideration by Member States as they seek to identify SDGs and accompanying targets. In a letter accompanying the Focus Areas, released on 21 February 2014, Macharia Kamau (Kenya) and Csaba Kőrösi (Hungary) write that further action in these areas is necessary to build "prosperous, peaceful and resilient societies that also protect the planet."

US Outlines Views on 2015 Climate Agreement [viewed]
