19 November 2008: Speaking at the Governors' Global Climate Summit, taking place from 18-19 November 2008, in Los Angeles, California, US, UNFCCC Deputy Executive Secretary Richard Kinley highlighted that practical state-level action can be an important step towards a low-emissions global economy.
The 11th meeting of the contracting parties (COP 11) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat will be preceded by the 44th meeting of Standing Committee planned for 4 July 2012, and an additional day of regional meetings on 5-6 July 2011, as requested by many Contracting Parties. The Standing Committee agreed that the broad theme for World Wetlands Day 2012 and COP 11 is “Wetlands, Tourism and Recreation.”
The fifth meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA) and the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) are scheduled to take place from 29 March to 8 April 2009, in Bonn, Germany.
The fifth Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety is organized by the CBD Secretariat. The meeting is expected to adopt rules and procedures on liability and redress in the context of Article 27 of the Protocol.
28 August 2008: The Africa Carbon Forum will take place from 3-5 September 2008, in Dakar, Senegal. At the thirteenth Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Bali, Indonesia in December 2007, the Secretariat of the UNFCCC announced its intent to convene the first Africa Carbon Forum, in collaboration with the International Emissions Trading Association and the partner agencies of the Nairobi Framework, including the UN Development Programme, UN Environment Programme, World Bank and African Development Bank.
July 2008: The Ramsar Secretariat has posted the draft resolutions (DRs) that will be considered by parties for adoption at their tenth Conference of Parties (COP10), which is scheduled to take place in Changwon, Republic of Korea, from 28 October to 2008 to 4 November 2008.
The 25th session of the UN Enviroment Programme's (UNEP) Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF) will convene in Nairobi, Kenya, from 16-20 February 2009.
The third meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action, a body established at COP 13 in Bali, will take place Accra, Ghana, from 21-27 August 2008. The sixth session of the AWG on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Protocol will also take place at the same time.
The first meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action, a new body established at COP 13 in Bali, will take place from 31 March - 4 April 2008, in Bangkok. The purpose of the meeting will be to develop the Group's work programme. The fifth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol will also be held at the same time.
