The theme for UNFF 9 is "forests for people, livelihoods and poverty eradication." UNFF 9 also is expected to complete consideration of the means of implementation for sustainable forest management.
The resumed seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 7) and the resumed ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9) are scheduled to take place at Barcelona Convention Centre.
The ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will, among other issues, consider the Joint Inspection Unit assessment of the Global Mechanism, consider options for regional coordination mechanisms, discuss the format for future CRICs and reporting guidelines, and conduct a concurrent scientific conference during the ninth session of the Committee on Science and Technology.
The seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 7) and the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9) are scheduled to take at the UN Conference Centre of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
The 17th session of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP 17) and the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 7) to the Kyoto Protocol will take place in Durban, South Africa. These meetings will coincide with the 31st meetings of the UNFCCC's subsidiary bodies. Under the “roadmap” agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali in December 2007, COP 15 and COP/MOP 5 are expected to finalize an agreement on a framework for combating climate change post-2012, when the Kyoto Protocol's first commitment period ends.
Observers will be allowed at these informal meetings of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP).
3 May 2009: A joint proposal has been submitted by the Federated States of Micronesia and Mauritius to amend the Montreal Protocol. The amendment proposes to regulate and phase-down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) with a high global warming potential and promote the destruction of banks of ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
These meetings will include the 30th sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC – the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) – the eighth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 8), and sixth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 6).
The 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the eighth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 8), among other associated meetings, are scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar.
