Event: Thirteenth Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA 13) [viewed]

Held under the auspices of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), this meeting will will focus on plant and aquatic genetic resources, the application and integration of biotechnologies in the conservation and utilization of genetic resources, as well as on climate change and genetic resources for food and agriculture. Furthermore, the Commission will consider policies and arrangements for access and benefit-sharing (ABS) for genetic resources for food and agriculture, including relevant aspects of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS, adopted at the tenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Other agenda items include: the updated Global Plan of Action for the Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture; review of cooperation with the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) and the CBD; review of the information base for aquatic genetic resources and key issues for the State of the World's Aquatic Genetic Resources; and review of progress in other areas of the CGRFA's Multi-Year Programme of Work (MYPOW), including Forest genetic resources and animal genetic resources and overall MYPOW implementation and review.

Meeting of LDCs and AOSIS Climate Negotiators to be Convened [viewed]

15 June 2010: The EU has provided US$1.1 million to the Solomon Islands Government to host an international meeting of 200 climate change negotiators from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) to discuss key climate change issues ahead of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, scheduled to take place in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of 2010.

Bolivia Comments on AWG-LCA Advance Draft [viewed]

16 June 2010: During a press conference held at UN Headquarters in New York, US, Bolivian Ambassador Pablo Solόn strongly objected to the advance draft of a revised text to facilitate negotiations among parties produced by the Chair of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC (AWG-LCA) at its tenth session, held in Bonn, Germany, earlier in June.

African Union and European Commissions Dialogue on Climate Policy [viewed]

8 June 2010: The fourth College-to-College Meeting between the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Commission (EC) was held on 8 June 2010, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to discuss the implementation of the Africa/EU Joint Strategy and its Plan of Action and address common challenges facing the two Commissions. The meeting adopted a Joint Declaration, containing a section on dialogue on climate policy.

SIDS Newsletter Reviews Preparations for MSI+5 [viewed]

The meeting included the 32nd sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC, the tenth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 10) and the 12th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 12).

UNCCD Organizes Land Day 2 [viewed]

6 June 2010: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) organized Land Day 2 on 5 June 2010, in parallel to the May/June Climate Change Talks in Bonn, Germany. The event sought to heighten the attention of policy- and decision-makers to the importance of land issues in the ongoing climate change negotiations, and to foster a dialogue that could strengthen an agreement regarding the post-2012 period for climate change policy.

2 June 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a submission (FCCC/CP/2010/3) from Grenada, on behalf of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), consisting of a proposed protocol to the Convention for adoption at the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16), to take place in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of 2010.
