UNFCCC Publishes Scenario Notes for August Meetings [viewed]

15 July 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the scenario notes for the 11th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long- Term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) (FCCC/AWGLCA/2010/10) and the 13th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Future Commitments for Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) (FCCC/KP/AWG/2010/9), which will take place from 2- 6 August 2010, in Bonn, Germany.

UNDP Supports Strategic Investment to Address Climate Change in LDCs [viewed]

UNDPJuly 2010: In order to strengthen support to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in their work on climate change in the lead up to the negotiations in Cancun and beyond, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) has committed US$5.6 million toward a programme on "Strategic Investment in Addressing Climate Change in LDCs."

Event: Pre-sessional Workshop on Forest Management Accounting [viewed]

Discussions at this workshop will focus on addressing issues related to the proposed options for forest management accounting, in particular the construction and use of reference levels. Participants will address the need for greater transparency in the reporting of approaches for construction of reference levels, implications of different construction approaches and the need for a process to review reference levels.

1 July 2010: The World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations on Environmental Goods and Services continued during a meeting of the Committee on Trade and Environment Special Session (CTE-SS), with proposals to include carbon capture and storage (CCS), natural gas and biofuels among environmental goods.

Event: Informal Meeting of Climate Ministers [viewed]

The "Geneva Dialogue on Climate Financing," which is co-organized by the Governments of Switzerland and Mexico, will help prepare for the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC scheduled to take place in Cancún, Mexico, at the end of 2010, and will focus on the long-term financing of climate protection. Participants are expected to discuss the overall architecture of the financial mechanism, including the new Climate Fund, as well as private sector engagement, governance and funding sources.

US Climate Change Envoy to Travel through Latin America [viewed]

COP 16 Chair Discusses COP 16 Preparations [viewed]

7 July 2010: The UN University (UNU) hosted a lecture by Patricia Espinosa, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the Chair of the upcoming 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP16), on 5 July 2010. She discussed Mexico's preparations for COP 16, which will convene in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of 2010.
