Event: 38th Summit of the G8 [viewed]

The US will host the 38th Summit of the Group of Eight (G8) at Camp David, Maryland, in May 2012. The G8 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Russian Federation, the UK, and the US. The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Chicago, back-to-back with the NATO summit, but the US announced the change in location and dates on 5 March (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/05/statement-press-secretary-g-8-and-nato-summits). The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold its summit in Chicago from 20-21 May (see http://www.chicagonato.org/ for more information). The Presidents Benin, Ghana and Tanzania and Prime Minister of Ethiopia are expected to join in the discussions on food security in Africa.

EBRD Helps Increase Serbia's Renewables Production [viewed]

20 December 2011: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is promoting green energy in Serbia with a €45 million sovereign-guaranteed loan to Elektroprivreda Srbije, the state-owned power company, to renovate existing and build new, small hydropower plants.

Cartagena Dialogue Participants Support GCF Draft Governing Instrument [viewed]

14 November 2011: A two-day meeting of the Cartagena Dialogue, which brought together high-level representatives from nearly 30 countries, was held in Santiago, Chile. The meeting focused on finding a constructive way forward in the UNFCCC Climate Change negotiations and provided an opportunity for the most ambitious and progressive countries to discuss how to make the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC as successful as possible.

New Latin America and Caribbean Forum Adopts Declaration of Caracas and Action Plan [viewed]

6 December 2011: The founding Summit of Heads of State and Government from 33 Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) countries has agreed that the newly formed Community of LAC States (CELAC) shall work together to take common positions and form regional strategies in a variety of policy areas, including energy.

Event: 42nd Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies [viewed]

The 42nd sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies to the UNFCCC are expected to take place in June 2015. The meeting will include the ninth part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-9), which is scheduled to take place from 1-11 June 2015.

Durban Conference Sets Pathway to More Inclusive 21st Century Climate Regime [viewed]

11 December 2011: The UN Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, concluded with the adoption of a set of decisions covering a wide range of topics, notably the establishment of a second commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol, a decision on long-term cooperative action under the Convention, the launch of a new process towards an agreed outcome with legal force applicable to all parties to the Convention, and the operationalization of the Green Climate Fund.
