MERCOSUR Leaders Discuss Sustainable Development Post-Rio+20 [viewed]

29 June 2012: The Presidents of the Southern Cone Common Market (MERCOSUR) Member States have issued a declaration addressing sustainable development, climate change, global mercury negotiations and mining. The leaders were meeting during a semi-annual summit, held on 29 June 2012, in Mendoza, Argentina. Immediately thereafter, a summit with the Associate States of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru adopted two additional declarations.

BASIC Countries Call for Focus on Implementation [viewed]

13 July 2012: The 11th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change concluded with the adoption of a joint statement in which the leaders reaffirm that the Durban Platform (ADP) process and outcome shall be under the Convention, in full accordance with all its principles and provisions, in particular the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.

Rio+20 Adopts "The Future We Want" Outcome Document, Voluntary Pledges Reported to Reach US$513 Billion [viewed]

22 June 2012: The third and final meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), Pre-Conference Informal Consultations Facilitated by the Host Country, and the UNCSD convened back-to-back in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 13-22 June 2012. During their ten days in Rio, government delegations concluded negotiations on the Rio outcome document, titled “The Future We Want.”

Event: Third IRENA Council Meeting [viewed]

The third meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency's (IRENA) Council meeting is set to discuss, among others, the implementation of the 2012 Work Programme, the framework of the Work Programme and Budget for 2013, the Agency's Medium-Term Strategy, and its Working Capital Fund. Accountable to the IRENA Assembly, and assisted by the Finance, Governance and Legal, and Policy and Strategy Committees, the 21 member Council facilitates consultations and cooperation among Members and considers the draft work programme, draft budget and annual report.

Bonn Talks Focus on Implementing the Durban Outcome [viewed]

25 May 2012: The first official UNFCCC negotiating session of 2012, after the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) held in Durban, South Africa, took place in Bonn, Germany, from 14 to 25 May 2012. It comprised the 36th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), the 15th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), the 17th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) and the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP).
