Event: Caring for Climate Business Forum: Innovation. Ambition. Collaboration. [viewed]

This Forum, to be convened on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, Peru, will provide a multi-stakeholder platform for dialogue and action among governments, UN agencies, business, investors and civil society. The first day of the Forum will include sessions on mitigation, adaptation, technology, finance and other cross-cutting issues, such as carbon pricing, responsible policy engagement and long-term goal setting aligned with climate science. The second day will feature a high-level meeting on corporate climate leadership convening chief and senior business executives, ministers and other government delegates. Nearly 300 participants are expected to attend, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The UN Global Compact, UN Environment Programme (including its Finance Initiative) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat are convening in the Forum.

ICAO, IMO Report to SBSTA on Emissions from International Aviation and Maritime Transport [viewed]

UNFCCC25 November 2014: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have submitted reports to the UNFCCC Secretariat that contain information on emissions from fuel used for international aviation and maritime transport. The submission (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/MISC.9) comes in response to the invitation by the 40th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 40).

UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy Focuses on CCS, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency [viewed]

UNECE21 November 2014: During the UN Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) 23rd annual meeting of the Committee on Sustainable Energy (CSE23), which was the final meeting of UNECE Sustainable Energy Week, UNECE Member States approved recommendations to the UNFCCC on how carbon capture and storage (CCS) should be treated in a post-Kyoto Protocol agreement.

The intergovernmental negotiations on post-2015 development agenda will take place over several sessions starting in January 2015. The first session, per the 17 November 2014 proposal of the co-facilitators, would take place on 19-21 January 2015.

UNITAR, Gabon Cooperate on Diplomacy, Climate Change [viewed]

Unitar20 November 2014: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Government of Gabon have signed two agreements aimed at strengthening multilateral diplomacy and building the capacity of Gabonese diplomats and Ministerial officials. As outlined in the agreements, UNITAR's Multilateral Diplomacy Programme will continue training the country's diplomats in a range of fields, including climate change, through 2015.

IEA Proposes Five Actions for Energy Sector Decarbonization [viewed]

IEA20 November 2014: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has proposed a list of five actions and implementation options for decarbonizing the energy sector. The proposal, which offers concrete recommendations for a 2015 climate agreement, appears in a document titled, ‘The Way Forward: Five Key Actions to Achieve a Low-Carbon Energy Sector.'

Montreal Protocol MOP 26 Adopts 26 Substantive Decisions [viewed]

Achim Steiner, Executive Director, UNEP21 November 2014: The 10th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (VC COP 10) and the 26th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MP MOP 26) have concluded in Paris, France, with MOP 26 adopting substantive decisions on: essential-use exemptions (EUEs) and critical-use exemptions (CUEs); availability of recovered, recycled or reclaimed halons; and a Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) report on alternatives to ozone depleting substances.

US$9.3 Billion Pledged to GCF [viewed]

green-climate-fund-new20 November 2014: Representatives from 21 governments presented pledges at the Green Climate Fund (GCF) High-Level Pledging Conference amounting to US$9.3 billion. The GCF underlined that this is the highest sum ever raised within a five-month period for an international financing mechanism dedicated to combating climate change.

France, Pacific Community Hold High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change [viewed]

SPC - French Flag17 November 2014: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) hosted a High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change between Pacific leaders and French President François Hollande, who will preside the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC in Paris, France. During the Dialogue, the Pacific Community urged France to take on a strong leadership role in 2015 to adopt a meaningful climate change agreement and pledged their support to Hollande during preparations for COP 21.
