Event: 2nd Task Force Meeting on the Future Work of the IPCC [viewed]

This Task Group meeting will consider submissions received from scientists, observer organizations, Technical Support Units (TSUs) and the Secretariat regarding: future IPCC products; appropriate structure and modus operandi for producing these products; and enhancing developing country participation in the IPCC's future work. The Group will also consider a draft Options paper prepared by the Task Group Co-Chairs, drawing on government submissions, and further elaborate, as necessary, to take into account submissions from scientists involved in preparing IPCC reports, IPCC observer organizations and other relevant stakeholders. The views and preliminary conclusions will be submitted to IPCC 40.

UN Special Envoy Highlights Urgency of Climate Agreement [viewed]

Mary Robinson2 September 2014: Small island developing States (SIDS) leaders “really want a climate agreement,” according to Mary Robinson, the UN Special Envoy for Climate Change. Speaking on the margins of the Third International Conference on SIDS, Robinson stressed the urgent need to build climate resilient communities and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Provisional Agendas Issued for Lima [viewed]

UNFCCC2 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has issued provisional agendas for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 10) to be held in Lima, Peru, from 1-12 December 2014.

Event: Fourth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Carpathian Convention (COP 4) [viewed]

The Fourth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 4) to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians (Carpathian Convention) will meet from 23-26 September in Mikulov, Czech Republic, to decide on the strategic policy direction of the Convention for the next three years. COP 4 also serves as the Meeting of the Parties to its Protocols on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological and Landscape Diversity, Sustainable Forest Management, and Sustainable Tourism. Participants will include environment ministers and high-level representatives of the seven Parties to the Convention. Parties are expected to, inter alia, review and decide upon a number of implementing documents, issue declarations and statements, and ratify the Protocol on Sustainable Transport to the Convention.

France Outlines Expectations for Paris COP [viewed]

frenchflag29 August 2014: French Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius outlined his country's expectations for the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC and 11th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 11), which will be held in Paris, France, from 30 November to 11 December 2015, focusing on the adoption of a legally-binding agreement, subsequent pledges by all countries, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and carbon pricing.

Event: Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) [viewed]

The Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) will take place on 13-16 July 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The conference will be held at the highest possible political level, including Heads of State or Government, relevant ministers – ministers for finance, foreign affairs and development cooperation – and other special representatives. The conference will result both in an intergovernmentally negotiated and agreed outcome and in summaries of the plenary meetings and other deliberations of the Conference, to be included in the report of the Conference.

Event: First Drafting Session on Outcome Document of Third Conference on FfD [viewed]

The Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 13-16 July 2015. According to UN General Assembly Resolution 68/279, the first draft of the outcome document will be prepared by the co-facilitators on the basis of informal consultations, taking into account inputs from Member States, and presented by February 2015. The Preparatory Process as outlined in the road map issued by the co-facilitators in October 2014 will include three drafting sessions on the outcome document. The first drafting session will take place on 27-29 January 2015.
