Rio+20 Adopts "The Future We Want" Outcome Document, Voluntary Pledges Reported to Reach US$513 Billion [viewed]

22 June 2012: The third and final meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), Pre-Conference Informal Consultations Facilitated by the Host Country, and the UNCSD convened back-to-back in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 13-22 June 2012. During their ten days in Rio, government delegations concluded negotiations on the Rio outcome document, titled “The Future We Want.”

Event: Third IRENA Council Meeting [viewed]

The third meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency's (IRENA) Council meeting is set to discuss, among others, the implementation of the 2012 Work Programme, the framework of the Work Programme and Budget for 2013, the Agency's Medium-Term Strategy, and its Working Capital Fund. Accountable to the IRENA Assembly, and assisted by the Finance, Governance and Legal, and Policy and Strategy Committees, the 21 member Council facilitates consultations and cooperation among Members and considers the draft work programme, draft budget and annual report.

Bonn Talks Focus on Implementing the Durban Outcome [viewed]

It comprised the 36th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), the 15th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), the 17th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) and the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP).

UNECE Meeting on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution Amends Gothenburg Protocol [viewed]

UNECE4 May 2012: The 30th Session of the Executive Body for the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) adopted amendments to the 1999 Gothenburg Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone (Gothenburg Protocol). The amendments include national emission reduction commitments to be achieved by 2020 and beyond, and address, for the first time, particulate matter, including black carbon, a short-lived climate forcer.
