UN Climate Change Conference Opens in Lima, Peru [viewed]

UNFCCC1 December 2014: The UN Climate Change Conference opened in Lima, Peru, and will continue through 12 December. Delegates are expected “to lay the foundation” for a new climate agreement in Paris in 2015, work towards streamlining elements of a draft agreement for Paris and explore common ground on unresolved issues in order to achieve a balanced draft text.

Event: Intergovernmental Negotiations on Post-2015 Development Agenda - Third Session [viewed]

The third session of intergovernmental negotiations on post-2015 development agenda will take place on 23-27 March 2015, and focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. The Draft Programme is available, and the co-facilitators provided "clarifications" on the programme of work on 17 March, as follows: on Monday, 23 March, the morning session will include a presentation from the UN Statistical Commission on preliminary global indicators; on Tuesday, 24 March, the afternoon session will include presentations by Member States on examples of approaches to implementing the SDGs at national level; on Friday, 27 March, the morning session will include a discussion of themes for the interactive dialogues during the post-2015 summit; and on Friday, 27 March, the afternoon session may include a discussion of issues related to coordination with the Financing for Development process, such as a technology facilitation mechanism.

Spain Announces EUR120 Million Pledge to GCF [viewed]

spanish-flag28 November 2014: The Government of Spain has pledged to commit €120 million to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), bringing total GCF contributions to US$9.7 billion equivalent. The announcement was made in advance of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, which is opening in Lima, Peru, on 1 December 2014, and just after the first GCF pledging conference, which took place in Berlin, Germany, on 20 November 2014.

European Parliament Adopts Resolution on Lima Climate Change Conference [viewed]

european-parliament26 November 2014: The European Parliament adopted a resolution stating that the climate change talks being held in Lima, Peru, should pave the way for negotiators to adopt an agreement in 2015 that will limit global average temperatures to warming of less than 2°C. The resolution calls for a 2015 agreement that aims to phase out global carbon emissions by 2050 and reiterates that the European Union (EU) is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 80-95% below 1990 levels by 2050.

Event: Caring for Climate Business Forum: Innovation. Ambition. Collaboration. [viewed]

This Forum, to be convened on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, Peru, will provide a multi-stakeholder platform for dialogue and action among governments, UN agencies, business, investors and civil society. The first day of the Forum will include sessions on mitigation, adaptation, technology, finance and other cross-cutting issues, such as carbon pricing, responsible policy engagement and long-term goal setting aligned with climate science. The second day will feature a high-level meeting on corporate climate leadership convening chief and senior business executives, ministers and other government delegates. Nearly 300 participants are expected to attend, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The UN Global Compact, UN Environment Programme (including its Finance Initiative) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat are convening in the Forum.

ICAO, IMO Report to SBSTA on Emissions from International Aviation and Maritime Transport [viewed]

UNFCCC25 November 2014: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have submitted reports to the UNFCCC Secretariat that contain information on emissions from fuel used for international aviation and maritime transport. The submission (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/MISC.9) comes in response to the invitation by the 40th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 40).
