On Its 50th Anniversary, G-77 Discusses A New World Order for Living Well [viewed]

G77logo15 June 2014: The Group of 77 (G-77) marked its 50th anniversary with a two-day summit on the theme, ‘A New World Order for Living Well.' The G-77 issued a 242-paragraph statement at the close of the summit, titled ‘Declaration of Santa Cruz: For a New World Order for Living Well,' which addresses development in the national context, South-South cooperation, global challenges and particular needs of developing countries in special situations.

Bonn Climate Change Conference Paves the Way to Lima [viewed]

Norway Becomes 11th Party to Accept Doha Amendment [viewed]

Event: UNCCD 3rd Scientific Conference [viewed]

The UNCCD 3rd Scientific Conference will take place from 9-12 March 2015, in Mexico, and will address the theme "Combating desertification, land degradation and drought for poverty reduction and sustainable development – the contribution of science, technology, traditional knowledge and practices”. It will be held during the fourth special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-4) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The Scientific Conference aims harness a wide range of scientific, local and traditional knowledge to achieve poverty reduction and sustainable development in areas susceptible to desertification, land degradation and drought. The Conference is being organized by the UNCCD Secretariat and the Scientific and Traditional Knowledge for Sustainable Development (STK4SD) Consortium.

UNFCCC Events Focus on Actions by Cities and Subnational Authorities [viewed]

UNFCCC10 June 2014: A Forum on Experiences and Best Practices of Cities and Subnational Authorities, as well as a Thematic Expert Meeting (TEM) on Urban Environment, convened under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform (ADP) during the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany. The events discussed the implementation of sub-national and city-level action on mitigation and adaptation.

GLOBE World Summit of Legislators Resolution Urges Climate Action [viewed]

Ministers Discuss Durban Platform for Enhanced Action at Bonn Climate Change Conference [viewed]

G7 Declaration Highlights Energy Security, Climate Change, Sustainable Development [viewed]

g7-eu5 June 2014: The Presidents of the European Council and European Commission (EC) have gathered with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US for a G7 Summit, during which they discussed issues related to Ukraine and global foreign policy issues, as well as energy, climate, economy and development, among others. The resulting Brussels G7 Summit Declaration addresses each of these issues and affirms the G7's commitment to “the values of freedom and democracy, and their universality and to fostering peace and security.”

Ministerial Roundtable Addresses Increased Ambition of Kyoto Protocol [viewed]

UNFCCC5 June 2014: For the first time ever, ministers joined the June session of the UN climate change talks. In a roundtable discussion on 5 June, they discussed increased ambition of Kyoto Protocol commitments and stressed the urgency of taking action. The roundtable provided an opportunity for ministers to: take stock of progress made in implementing the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol; discuss how to increase ambition in reducing emissions for that period; and address how lessons learned in implementing the Protocol could positively influence mitigation ambition, including under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP).

June 2014 Bonn Climate Change Conference to Open with High-Level Ministerial Events [viewed]

UNFCCC2 June 2014: The Bonn Climate Change Conference will begin with two high-level ministerial sessions on: implementation of the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol; and political aspects of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP), including the nature of nationally determined contributions for the 2015 agreement and the necessary level of ambition before 2020. Ministers will also consider the recently published reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
